Accused Kane County (IL) candidate dies in crash
Accused Kane candidate dies in crash

A Kane County Board candidate arrested last week on sexual assault charges died Tuesday when his vehicle slammed head-on into a concrete bridge support, Aurora police said.

Brent K. Schepp, 36, a father of four from Aurora, was traveling at "a very high rate of speed" on Eola Road and did not try to brake or take any evasive action, said Dan Ferrelli, police spokesman.

"At this point in the investigation, we believe this to be self-inflicted," Ferrelli said, adding that the coroner and an inquest will determine the cause of death.

Schepp was seeking the board's District 3 seat, but his first bid for office quickly unraveled with the announcement Friday of charges that he sexually abused and assaulted two teenage girls in 2005. The Kane County Republican Central Committee withdrew its endorsement of his candidacy that afternoon.

2. So odd, Republicans are predisposed to sexual molestation

Wonder what a shrink would have to say the reason for this phenomena?

The DEVIL made me do it?

3. I'm sure there are Dems predisposed as well, but
it does seem very one-sided. Maybe they were sexually repressed and are 'acting out' their fantasies?
I don't know the answer.

7. a few reasons off the top of my head...
One is that some of them are, like you said, sexually repressed and have remained in terms of sexual maturity at the child or adolescent stage. I mean, there was a time when I found 8-year-old girls very attractive... of course, I was also eight at the time; some people, however, don't progress beyond that, so while being physically at age 30, they are still 8-years-old sexually.

For others, it may not be that they're truly sexually attracted to little girls, but they're so awkward around adult women that they prefer young girls, since they're easier to control. (That is, instead of seeking out a child because he's sexually immature, the predator seeks her out because she's an easy target.)

As for the one-sidedness, it's no secret that Republicans are for more dogmatically religious than Democrats and since most western religions are very sexually repressed, it's no surprise that more Republicans than Democrats would suffer from this sexual repression. On top of this, I figure that the Republican platform of explicit religiosity is very attractive to someone who has these issues and wants to "hide in plain view," ie. Mark Foley being in charge of the Committee on Missing and Exploited Children; the Democratic platform provides no such smokescreen. I think that therefore pedophiles who are Republicans are attracted to running for public office, pedophiles who are Democrats are terrified of it.

So, long story short, I think the one-sidedness is so glaring because there are more pedophiles who are Republicans (due to its being a de facto theocratic party) and they are attracted to seeking public office as Republicans, while fewer pedophiles are Democrats and those that are would be afraid of seeking public office.

I could be completely wrong, though... it's early in the morning. ;-)

8. And how many of them were themselves abused as kids?
This is a chain that needs to be broken.

4. I knew two men who killed themselves like this when they lost jobs
Back in Brevard County, Florida in the late 60's, when the govt. cut back the space race, thousands of engineers who had been hired straight out of college to work for NASA and aerospace contractors, and whose only expertise was relative to the Saturn program, were simultaneously laid off with just weeks notice. Guys would sending out a hundred resumes/applications and get no responses. I knew four husbands/dads who attempted suicide so their families would get life insurance benefits. The two guys who made "successful" suicide attempts did so by driving their cars at high rates of speed into solid objects. One guy drove his car into a concrete wall; the other drove his sports car into a big tree.

10. When One Lives A Lie...
This sad incident didn't happen to far from here and my sympathies are with this man's family...as they were when this terrible story came to light. But then here's a man who lived a lie, thought he was smarter than others and could get away with things others couldn't...that he'd never get caught...and if he did he surely could talk his way out of it. Then something like this happens...

Considering how this guy's world must have dropped out in 24 hours or less, part of me feels sorry, but then another part of me saw this coming. Besides facing the possibility of jail time, Schepp lost his family, his career and friends...too bad he didn't have the sense to think about his actions before he let the wrong head do the thinking. Again, my deepest sympathies to a family that now has to live with the question of "why"...and will never have the answer.

I've wondered what condition Mr. Foley is in. He high-tailed it out of DC sight unseen and no one has seen him since. Yesterday at the non-news conference his lawyer had he feigned that he had no idea where his client was staying (I guess he gets paid with cash in an envelope...don't ask questions).

13. Check the charges: CRIMINAL sexual assault, not just "sexual assault".
MULTIPLE charges.
The legal definition of criminal sexual assault is any genital, oral, or anal penetration by a part of the accused's body or by an object, using force or without the victim's consent (7). Criminal sexual assault, or rape, is often further stratified to include acquaintance rape, date rape, statutory rape, child sexual abuse, and incest. Such terms generally describe the age of the victim and her relationship to the abuser. Despite these various classifications of rape, it is important to remember that all are acts of rape.

I'd bet the victims were relatives.
