2006 Election - Values vs. Ethics
Edited on Wed Oct-18-06 07:54 AM by LeftHander
The Republicans are on their heels and the Democrats are finally doing the pushing. Over the past decade we have heard conservative values talk from the right and that message sounded good to enough people to hand control of the U.S. government to narrow minded, selfish, power hungry, religious red-necks.

But the patina of values has corroded of late. You can only throw so many coats of paint on a broken down house before it cracks, peels and exposes the rotten foundation.

Conservative values we have found has been synonymous with winning at any cost, any means to accomplish the goal illustrated by the shifting justifications for the most expensive war in recent memory. Then to top it all off the scandals, the blatantly unethical behavior of Republican leadership in handling not only legislation, campaign finance but the "handling" of pages and the subsequent cover up.

Values without ethics is meaningless. Without ethical behavior in conjunction with good old common sense we get a circus of two faced clowns with perfect hair talking out both sides at once.

When it comes to values we all can have a slightly different set of values. But when it comes to ethics...we all share the knowledge of what is right and what is wrong. We all know that lying is wrong. We all know that people in a position of power are required to be held to higher standard of conduct and if they use that power for the personal gain of friends and themselves that constitutes a breech of trust. The Republicans have played fast and loose with our values in a very unethical manner and the electorate is finally realizing it.

Now the only question that remains is will the elections be fair? We know the outcome will be tipping in favor of a turnover in the house and possibly in the senate.

How much control do we really have? We will find out soon enough. Given the track record of the right wing it seems likely that attempts will be made to retain power that go above and beyond our expectations.

Note: Edited for clarity.

1. The Patina Of Values Has Always Been A Front & A Lie
Because cheating, thieving, conniving GOP hacks wouldn't know a value if it bit them on the ass. Now they have been exposed what are they gonna run on? Corruption? Thanks for this thoughtful post.
