WHY are the Iraqis torturing each other to death by the thousands?

Does that ALWAYS occur when Democracy is on the march? I don't recall offhand any accounts of thousands of Yankee soldiers being tortured to death with drills in the skull by Confederate soldiers.

What the hell is going on over there? Why are they doing this?

I just can't keep up sometimes.

1. They are doing this because
This is the form of democracy that the Junta has installed. After all, if it is good enough for Americans.... :sarcasm:

before the United States got there. Those poor little Iraqis lived in a veritable garden of eden, until we waltzed in with fruit of evil and more evil and jammed it down their throats.

2. Imagine another country invading and occupying America for a moment
The first thing the occupiers did was to fire all of our police and military.

Then they hire every racist white criminal they could find, arm them to the teeth, and put them in charge of all the predominantly black or latino areas throughout America.

And they also hired every black and latino criminal they could find and armed and then sent them into the predominantly white neighborhoods to police them.

What do you think would happen?

We are basically doing the same thing in Iraq.

4. U.S. Civil War was post Bronze Age but pre Black and Decker.
Inhumanity is non denominational and as old as humanity.
Seems to me the bad guy we installed and now have on trial
over there was the force that kept sectarian violence under control.

I don't know that a drill bit is any less destructive than a mortar.
It's just more personal.

5. Well, If You Really Don't Know
Its to humiliate and terrorize members of the dead person's sect in the hope that the warning sent by the horrible death suffered by the victim will entice others of the dead person's sect to remove themselves from the field of play.

Short and simple.

An alternate explanation is that the killers feel they have suffered equal horror at the hands of the sect of the dead person and that all they are doing is paying out retribution.

Also short and simple.

Then there will be the small portion of those deaths by torture that can be attributed to individual sick minds and the mob mentality.

7. Historians were warning against this before this war started
All concerns regarding the historic tensions between the Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds were flat out ignored. The PNACers were either completely delusional to believe that America could storm in and erase hundreds of years worth of hatred by getting rid of Saddam OR they wanted this to happen. Many people lean toward the delusional argument but I think they know what they're doing. Ultimately they want American democracy and American Christianity to spread across the ME which is difficult to get when "they" are all fighting "us" so why not have them fight each other instead? Their mistake was assuming that they could then storm into either Iran or Syria shortly after taking the attention and focus off of Iraq. This obviously hasn't happened.
