"In a time of war we need to support our president". |
|
Unless of course a Democrat becomes president in 08 and declares the war over, then the exact same republican assholes who made the above statement so many times till we got sick of hearing it will change their little tune.

on a limb for Clinton. Makes you kind of wonder if everything you learned about the U.S. government was ever really true.

2. It's things like this that get me so frustrated with Bush supporters |
|
It's the blind faith to him, the belief that he has and can do no wrong and if you don't support him, you support terrorism.
So frustrating.

Congress hasn't declared war. They can't delegate that power to anyone else, either. So, as far as I'm concerned, any "war" we're in is undeclared.

7. That's when a President should be questioned the most |
|
The idea that once at war everyone shuts up and pulls behind the President is blind loyalty passed off as patriotism...wilfully ignorant nationalism couched in phrases such as "for the good of the country"

23. Does anyone remember the widespread contempt for Bush as of |
|
9/10/01? His entire summer program was something really lame and stupid. I keep coming up with no child left behind, but I think it was even lamer. The only reason Bush survived is that too many were in shock and couldn't rouse themselves to stop him in time. It didn't help that too many Democratic office holders decided that the safe thing to do was to go along.

27. Yes. I remember how bad it was going for Bush |
|
prior to September 11, 2001
But "shock" isn't an acceptable excuse for enabling a wanna be tyrant..neither is playing it safe.
And I realize you're not suggesting it is
I'm just saying no one in America has a good excuse for supporting Bush in any way on that day...or any day after it.... Or any day before it for that matter.
I was afraid so I supported Bush?
Piss poor excuse and one that gets you exactly what you deserve.
So-called patriotism?
Sad excuse. Pathetic even. Requires no thought just blind allegiance to the people in charge.
Playing it safe?
Unethical, downright criminal, excuse. For it shut down checks and balance and enabled Bush and his agenda.

29. Distracted is perhaps a better word |
|
There were people all excited at work discussing how we were going to go to war. Business had been bad and they thought going to war would increase orders! They were such jerks i never paid any attention to them anyways. I was too busy trying to get my head around all the deaths and feeling sorry for the families directly involved. it wasn't until the National Memorial Service ended with the singing of the Battle Hymn of the republic that I realized what was going on.

8. "In a time of war" gripes me to no end! |
|
WHEN did Congress declare war, and which country was it declared upon? What, not a country but "extremists", "terrorists", "Islamofascists" you say?...as defined by whom?
And while we're at it, just exactly how will we know that we've WON this "War"? Will there be a ceremony for signing surrender papers with details? Who's going to be signing this surrender certificate?
This "War" is perpetual! We will forever be "in a time of war"!!! Why people fail to grasp this is simply beyond me.

You know I hate that everybody says we are at war, but Congress hasn't declared war and unlike Korea I don't even know of a police action. Bush loves to call himself a "war time president" but without a declaration of war that is plain wrong. I don't remember presidents during the cold war calling themselves "wartime presidents".

|
"In a time of war we need to support our president". wtf?
That meme has been hammered into the heads of the masses continuously since 9/11, but seriously, where the fuck is it written that the president must be supported in a time of war?
Everyone universally, viscerally, automatically takes that statement to be axiomatic. Why is this?

You know, the country whose citizens attacked targets in the US five years ago? Oh, wait... we went to war against somebody else.
Oh, maybe it's the War on Terror! That's kinda like the War on Drugs, or maybe the War on Poverty.

"I can support the troops without supporting the president" Trent Lott (referring to Clinton)
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." Theodore Roosevelt

24. Who Was The Military Hero For Conservatives... |
|
during the Clinton years?
Pfc. Michael New, a soldier who disobeyed orders to serve as a UN peacekeeper(in Bosnia, I believe) and was drummed out of the military. And conservatives just LOVED this guy. They even wanted other soldiers to follow his example.
Repukes are such hypocritical weasels.

This time around, the "enemy" has no name, no face (other than brown, as usual), no country.
If this were really a war, how come the American public have not been asked to sacrifice or ration one single thing? :grr:
