Is The "Ds Will Call For Impeachment" Talking Point HURTING The Rs?
They've been on it for weeks now, and they're pounding it even harder this week. But if the polls are to be
believed, the Rs numbers just keep getting worse and worse.

Could it be that their sky-will-fall talking point is driving more voters to vote for the Ds in hopes that a
D Congress will impeach bushco? I know that this single issue can't account for the hopeless slope the Rs
are on sliding down into the election, but it doesn't seem to be resonating outside of Beltwaypunditville, nor
does it seem to be giving them a lift in the polls.

Your thoughts?

1. It's an admission of guilt....if they had nothing to hide it....
wouldn't frighten them so much.

2. I think it might be. "The Democrats will hold Bush accountable"
seems to be a very logical reason to vote for Democrats. Of course, we shouldn't rush to impeach. Let's have real investigations first. Then we impeach.

3. this could turn back on them big time
ask why would the dems demand impeachment? If they say revenge for clinton you can go into a laundry lists of lies and ilegal activities.

4. I don't think the Dems should feed that talking point
or it will likely become a call to arms. It doesn't take a genius - which still may leave out many Republicans (meow) - to know they have much to answer for and that many questions remain unanswered. The Dems will do oversight and that entails investigations, and the truth shall set America free.

5. Voters can smell their fear
This could turn into a bloodbath. The Repukes just pulled back money from Ohio, giving only $700K, when they had identified DeWine as a must-save. They must think he's doomed.

7. Yes...
On one hand they are trying to rally, but on the other hand, by complaining about impeachment, they can't help but raise the issues, and the issues is something that the Right has benefitted from avoiding in the past. It almost seems like they are trying to lose.

If impeachment isn't viable for this crowd, it never is.

And I have to think even our famously Einsteinesque electorate sees this by now.

This morning she was questioning a Democratic representative, and asked....

"So, if the Democrats take over one or both houses of congress, can you promise us that you won't start investigations and subpoenas, and undermine president * during the final two years of his administration."

Ummmmmmm......you mean like you FUCKING REPUBS did to Clinton? No, why would we do that?

Maybe if there were no crimes, there would be no investigations. WHAT ARE YOU SO AFRAID OF YOU RED HEADED BITCH?

12. They might really want * Impeached
(the real conservatives, not the neocons) but might not have the will to say it out loud that they would be responsible for it... so they're depending on us to do it when we take power again.

15. Absolutely. White males on the right in particular. . .
Edited on Thu Oct-19-06 01:13 PM by pat_k
. . .revel in accusation and punishment. They don't really care about fixing the war, the economy, whatever. . . they want to go after somebody, anybody, for screwing everything up!

And the notion that impeachment would be some long drawn out process has litte validity. It is as likely that Republicans will to it that Bush and Cheney are dumped in week when impeachment becomes a reality (either by paying a visit and "encourage" them to resign or pushing through the Articles with amazing speed).

It is so tragically ironic. Had the Democratic leadership and Democratic candidates been running on impeachment, demonstrating the fortitude and strength Americans respects, they would probably have picked up people across the spectrum, and at least 5% of the white male vote.

The magnitude of their mistake is painful to behold. There was no downside to standing up. Folks on the right who they feared would be activated if they ran on impeachment aren't listening to Democratic denials. They believe the Dems are unprincipled hypocrites who will impeach when they gain power, whatever their "promises" now.

Perhaps the most tragic thing is this: When we finally wake them up to their duty, if they have control of Congress the perception that they are wimps who are only willing to fight for principle when it is safe will be accurate.

They missed the boat in timing, but we cannot allow them to escape their duty.
