Obama beats McCain in AOL presidential poll |
|
The political spotlight shines on Barack Obama. The buzz surrounding the Democratic senator from Illinois has grown since he took office just last year. He's on the move, pitching a new memoir and rallying his party this fall. "Why Barack Obama Could Be the Next President," TIME magazine declares in a cover story. Does he have what it takes to run in 2008? You be the judge. http://news.aol.com/dailypulse/101806/_a/political-rock-star/20061018104709990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001

1. Sorry but I do not think he has a chance. |
|
He is too young and inexperienced. He also does not have the backing from the big wheels in the Democrat party.

as influential as they told themselves they were. The netroots has come on strong and has not reached its ceiling of potential. The establishment has and Obama may straddle both spheres of influence. He demanded the DLC not to use his name too.

Welcome to DU but I have to admit that it's interesting that you used a WELL KNOWN pejorative to talk about the party that many, if not most, of the membership of DU holds.

4. Like him or not, he's the only Dem that Hillary fears. |
|
Hell, she'll even step aside and keep her powder dry if she thinks Obama's in the race.
Many DU'ers don't dig Obama. And that's fine. But Hiilary beats all comers, and goes down in flames in November, 2008, unless Obama trades in on his star quality now.
So what does DU want? A loss with Gore (or Clark, or Feingold, or Edwards)? Or a win with Obama? Because nobody in either party can beat Obama. Star power does that in America right now.

Obama would not be a sure winner. He is black. I know this Senator that kept saying things like "macaca" and was a fan of the Confederate flag. When these things came to light, he actually went up in the polls. Also, there is a blue collar, blue voting racism alive and well in my state.
I wish these things were not true but they are.
In spite of all that, I think Obama could win in his lifetime, I just don't know if it will be in 08. I also don't think Gore and Clark are sure losers.

I can't even say he's partisan. He's not exactly a Democrat, and he's certainly not a Republican. I think this is a good thing, even though I'm a raging liberal.

Don't think that Hillary will just be handed anything.
Lots of people would love to reopen the Clinton wars. Giving them Obama instead would deny them this perverse thrill.

20. I don't agree that Obama is an easy winner |
|
I'm impressed by him but I'm not convinced he can win. I think he's too naive politically and not an experienced enough campaigner. I loved Clark and I very much admire him, but it takes political experience in some very tough elections to make it through a Presidential campaign. Clark made some rookie mistakes. I just heard Obama say he's against negative campaigning. If so, then he'll never win the Presidency.
I still think Gore can win fairly easily. I think America realizes the mistake they made with allowing * to steal the Presidency.

18. Oprah should decide the next P-Resident. I agree ...she's the one person |
|
most Americans will listen too! She's rich and famous and her audience is so mainstream that it could SWEEP INTO POWER THE NEXT P-RESIDENT. If she teams with Don IMUS" then we are GUARANTEED A WONDERFUL DEM PRESIDENT for '08.
I'm so glad to here this. I can rest easy and just watch my TeeVee. After all OPRAH & IMUS really have the "heartland of America" as viewers and I'm glad they are deciding who should run and win because their "fingers" are on the "pulse" ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$/s) of average Americans.
They know best...it's good because I'm really busy these days and need help from those who know better than me who will be the best candidate. It's good...

It's nice to hear Obama is doing well in the polling, but you certainly can't draw any conclusions from it.

As many here know, I live in freeperville...I'M SURROUNDED by them. My next door neighbors, people across the street, people all along my street had BUSH signs in their yards in '00 and '04. Another thing they all had in common was...They ALL had Obama signs next to the Bush signs during the 2004 election. Obama could win and win BIG....HUGE. I'm telling you, people LOVE this guy. He wouldn't be MY first choice as Prez just because I'm way more to the left than he is, but he's better than ANY damn repuke. He'd get my vote if he ran.
