Radical U.S. lawyer jailed
http://www.keralanext.com/news/?id=880120

U.S. civil rights lawyer Lynne F. Stewart, who smuggled messages between an imprisoned terrorist client and his violent followers in Egypt, was sentenced Monday to nearly two-and-half years in prison, according to media reports.

The sentence, handed down by Judge John G. Koeltl in Federal District Court in Manhattan, was significantly lower than the 30 years sought by prosecutors.

Lynne Stewart, 67, was convicted in February 2005 of helping her imprisoned client, Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, contact the Islamic Group, which is listed by the U.S. government as a terrorist organization.

9. The defense department intially asked for 30 years
the judge gave her a reasonable sentence of 28 months

Sorry I didn't make that clear :)

12. if 30 years is the right sentence for this crime
then yes, she should have been sentenced for that long but she's also pushing 70 and has cancer

Libby, Cheney and Rove haven't been convicted of anything YET and I doubt they ever will be

5. "Rock On"?
This lawyer took an oath to uphold the Constitution and laws of the United States, when she became a member of the Bar.

Make the best legal arguments? Sure. Knowingly commit a felony in furtherance of a plot to harm one's own country? Never.

Two and a half years sounds a little light. She must have caught a break because of her age.

As a fellow lawyer, I have nothing but disgust for this colleague (unfortunately).

8. I would have done the same thing.
But then, I am a warrior... not an ideologue.

Fighting is fighting.

11. This is fucking insane through the looking glass bushit.
CIA agents outed and lawyers thrown in prison for defending their clients and no habeas corpus.
