I'm a housecat I don't get out much now, how are things looking in your part of the country? Will we succeed in the coming election?

I think Rahm's help actually did. The GOoPers are pulling out all plugs and running some nasty, shallow, ads. I find them well, nasty and shallow. But, now knows? I think today's IraqNam news along with Bush's admission that Tet is a lot like Ramadan in IraqNam, well, I have fingers crossed.

12. Yeah, didn't her opponent comment on her 'cutting and running' |
|
from Iraq?
I hope she makes it (for selfish reasons...I adore her campaign manager!) and it costs the GOP a whole lotta dough to lose.
Nothing would make me happier than to have the RNC/NRCC/RNSC all in debt going into the 2008 primary season!
Good luck :bounce:

13. Yesterday's Chicago TRIBUNE McCormick's conservative paper |
|
has never supported a democrat for national office. Not once. In 2003-4, after they endorsed W, about 8% of the readership cancelled their papers. It was enough to cause their ombudsman, public editor (Clarence Page) to distance himself from the editorial decision. The owner, publisher and chief editor sent thousands of letters to those who dropped the paper. (I got three, personally)
Yet, as I started, Yesterday, it endorsed Duckworth over her glazed eyed ultraconservative bullshit artist who is running against her. Talk about shock and awe! I cannot ever recall such an endorsement from the Trib.

If you look back at my older posts your will see that I have always been very cautious and skeptical about the Repubs losing the House. But now, I really think the Repubs are going to lose the House. I still think the Senate will be tough, but not out of reach. Before I thought the Senate wasn't possible - not any more :)

4. Looking into my crystal ball... |
|
Grannie sees the pendulum swinging back a bit to the left/center and invigorated Dems for '08. And if this doesn't invigorate them, then something is wrong.
In short..the beginning of better times.
Now we just need to beg Al to run.

within a seat or two of 50/50, but I have no idea which way it will break.

The state is so gerrymandered that it's tough to oust an incumbent but the Dems might pick up a couple. Pombo might go down and I'm hoping scandal ridden Doolittle loses alos. Both are very safe Repug districts but the Dem challengers are making a good run for it.
Ah-nuld stays Governor. My big concern is that Angelides ran such a bad campaign that he might take down some state house Dem candidates with him.
I don't think there will be a big turnout in CA.

8. The best thing I can tell you about AZ is at least this cycle we have |
|
candidates in nearly all of the races. Pederson has pulled to within 5pts of Kyl. I love my House district candidate, but he has no chance of beating Shadegg.
Sorry, I so hope I'm wrong. ;(

9. Here in NE Iowa things are looking up |
|
The Chair of the Budget Committee (Jim Nussle - R) left a 16 year career of making our lives miserable to run for Governor - being opposed by Secretary of State Chet Culver (D-yea!). In every poll (including the recent Research 2000 poll) Culver leads by 2-6 points. I know not a big lead but Culver has higher positives and lower negatives than Nussle and Non Party voters support Culver over Nussle by 10 points.
The Congressional seat abandoned by Nussle is being fought over by Democrat (and evil trial lawyer if you ask the GOP) Bruce Braley and Republican (small...haha multi-million dollar .... business owner) Mike Whalen, who is running as an independent-minded Republican and that is why Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, Tony Snow, John McCain and Laura Bush have all come and campaigned for him. No help from the Washington Insider crowd. Braley out-raised Whalen by $500,000 this quarter and has $250,000 more cash on han AND is ahead by 11 pts in the latest DCCC polling.
All in all it looks good for Iowas First Congressional District.
As for Statehouse and County races - the GOP and Republican 527s have royally screwed up sending out flyers and making robo-calls that have had so many factual errors that the print and tv media have run stories and fact-check style stories about them and have made for interesting political forums where the Republican candidates have had to spend all their time either defending or denouncing the attacks and none of the time trying to get people to support them. Can't tell you what will come of it - but it feels nice to be able to be proud of our candidates and our party for not messing up like that. With Culver/Braley performing so well our statehouse candidates should get some help come election day.

I couldn't tell you, it's been really quiet, I don't recall an ad from either candidate, I just hope there enough mad people, and enough valie voters who stay home to give us the seat.
