U.S. Immigration Reform PAC Supports Nguyen and California Flier

WASHINGTON, Oct. 19 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Washington, D.C.- based U.S. Immigration Reform Political Action Committee (USIRP) reiterated its endorsement for congressional candidate Tan D. Nguyen and said it sees "nothing wrong" with a bulk-mail flier his campaign sent to the foreign-born in Orange County, Calif., warning that illegal immigrants cannot vote.

USIRP Communications Director Phil Kent said, "What is wrong with sending a message that immigrants here illegally cannot vote in elections? A campaign or individual has every right to disseminate that opinion under the First Amendment -- especially when you consider this is the No. 1 suspect district in the country because state and federal probes revealed over 1,000 illegal aliens voted in the 1996 November's congressional election."

Kent added, "The civil rights division of the U.S. Justice Department has been taken over by politically correct Bush appointees who are grossly misinterpreting the Voting Rights Act in this regard. No one -- even if foreign-born -- is being denied the right to a ballot who is legitimately registered to vote in that California district. It is wrong for the department to threaten the Nguyen campaign -- it has far bigger and legitimate cases to tackle."

"The district's incumbent Rep. Loretta Sanchez," Kent added, "never should have been seated in the House of Representatives in 1997 because the large number of illegal aliens that voted in that '96 election could have tipped the outcome either way. Direct mailers single out various voter blocs in many elections at the local, state and federal level -- even by ethnicity. How is this incident really any different?"
