Burns met with relative of Abramoff client before vote switch Burns=TOAST
Newspaper: Burns met with relative of Abramoff client before vote switch
By IR State Bureau - 01/25/06

HELENA — Sen. Conrad Burns, R-Mont., met with the sister-in-law of a Marianas man and client of confessed criminal Jack Abramoff in the weeks before Burns received a $5,000 donation from the man and reversed his position on a bill Abramoff opposed, a newspaper has reported.

Burns met with Rita H. Inos, commissioner of education for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. territory near Guam, in early April of 2001, according to the Saipan Tribune, a newspaper on the largest Marianas Islands.

The meeting was apparently part of a 15-minute meeting Burns had with Inos and then-Speaker of the House Benigno Fitial, on April 3, 2001.

Inos is the sister-in-law of Eloy Inos, an executive of the Tan Holdings Co., which owns garment manufacturing among other businesses and is the largest employer on the islands, according to a reporter for Pacific Magazine, a Hawaii publication that covers the Pacific region

5. Yeah, all those facts coming out are nuthin but partisan politics
He's an innocent victim of all those DEMS who took $$ from Abramoff clients! At least HE isn't insisting DEMS took $$ from Abramoff.

Check it out!

Poor Conrad. The schmuck has no idea we have internet and news up here in Big Sky Country now, and the kicker? We have him to thank for getting it spread far and wide. A telecommunications bill he worked on a few years back made it easier for phone co-ops in smaller population centers to get modern service. Why, I had DSL years before my sister could get it in a big city in the sunbelt!

Also, lots of posts about Burns in the Montana forum. Some have links to Billings Gazette articles, each complete with an index of links to newspaper reports, multi-media, and pertinent documents. Drop on by! We don't get enough visitors in that forum and we are gonna be a BIG battleground with the GOP. They are running scared and butting in big time in our little state ;) We could use more DEM attention!

10. I saw it.
The trouble is, he looks like a crook while he is speaking. Guess there's nothing he can do about that.

Conrad doesn’t check genealogy, nor does he do background checks before he meets with people,” Burns spokesman James Pendleton said.

What's the need to do that as long as the check doesn't bounce, huh Conrad? :eyes:

It's organized crime, quite literally.

6. Did ya read the one where he tried to give the $$ to a tribal council
that has only one registered lobbyist? That lobbyist is Burns' former legislative aide!

That was a can of worms the tribal council decided to avoid. Conrad was left holding the bag of loot. Nobody wants his cash

And the one about him putting together an info packet to show what a great guy he was?
He included articles written by a 'journalist' who also was paid by Abramoff to write favorable pieces about his clients.

Or the one about the GOP begging for help 'freeping polls' about poor burns?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=163x664

I'm telling ya, it's a laugh riot! The man is gonna stroke out he is so stressed and blundering so bad. The GOP has got to be setting him up to bow out when the Billings Gazette runs such nice link indexes on a regular basis. As much fun as this all is, I fear a telegenic dark horse getting trotted out of the GOP stables. Where the hell is Racicot lately? Bet he thinks we will forget & forgive too.

Come on over to the Montana forum. This is better than ANYTHING on TV!

7. The corruption is such a 'growth industry' even the inept clowns are in it
It's not a matter of 'hidden' corruption or 'sophisticated' corruption ... it's a matter of no longer being able to walk in the corridors of Congress without tripping over it no matter how much they try to avoid it.

8. That'll be Conrad's next sound bite!
'I am not a crook! I just got crook cooties from all those other guys...'

There is a certain endearing quality to how badly he does all this. Awww OK, I'm over that! ;)

11. I think DU needs a "Schadenfreude Forum" where ONLY the woes and ...
... failures of the Reichbots get portrayed for the enjoyment of DUers. Such a forum should prohibit voicing any frustrations and be strictly devoted to wallowing in the enjoyment of seeing Bushbots being indicted, convicted, imprisoned, and being tossed out of office.
