If Democrats take House and Senate, what do you think will happen?
Do you think Bush will actually veto a whole bunch of bills put before him if he doesn't like them? This wouldn't set a very nice tone going into a 2008 election and would give Democrats ammo to campaign against electing another obstructionist Republican president.

Will the remaining Republican officeholders (the McCains etc.) continue to mindlessly shill for the lame duck? Or would minority Republicans actually sing a different tune than now?

Would it have the effect (Republican majority losses) of breaking the hold of Karl Rove over the party agenda? The aura of electoral invincibility having been pierced?

I know that nothing's happened yet, and I don't assume that either house will go for the Democrats. But I was curious what others thought about this.

3. Nothing. They'll STILL be afraid of upsetting the Republicans.
Oh, if only there was an opposition party in this country worth a shit.

If the Dems win, we'll have Holy Joe and Hillary out there talking "moderation" (aka "bending over for the Republicans") and discouraging any meaningful action to restore our country.

If you think you're pissed off NOW, just wait until we win and the Dem leaders STILL fail to do anything meaningful.

21. Actually They are afraid of pissing off moderate/independent voters
RINO, DINOs and Swing voters as (as always) wherenational elections are won and lost.

Clinton, Dodd, Feingold, Kerry, Obama, Bayh, Biden, McCain, Frist and Allen, are all almost certainly running for President. ANd maybe even Feinstein and Graham. That is 12 Senators all wanting to please swing voters and the party base.

Nothing will be accomplished.

22. GOOD FOR YOU
My thoughts exactly.Dems lack any spine and the only reason they stand a chance in this election is not because they convinced the people but it was the republicans who shot themselves in the foot. What i would like to see, if there is sufficient number of dems elected, is an attempt for impeachment for bush and cheney. But i think i have a better chance of winning the lottery than that.

19. He should be held to his promise
But personally I think we should establish Antarctica as a penal colony and exile the entire Repug leadership, Bush regime officials, and "conservative movement" movers and shakers there. With no gear, no food, nothing, just drop 'em off and make 'em learn Antarctic survival skills the hard way. Good riddance.

10. I think that what happens is this:
The House will move to impeach Cheney and Rumsfeld, but leave Bush alone. I think that, more than anything, will show Bush he needs to be less of an autocrat.

Rove will still be Rove. :puke:

12. Why would Bush bother vetoing a bill...
when he can just issue signing statements instead?

He'll continue his dictatorship, even if Dems take over Congress.

16. If they do not
immediately begin impeachment procedings for Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al, I will feel cheated and betrayed. This to be followed by criminal indictments for treason, and other high crimes. Every member of this unholy regime needs to be frog-marched out of Washington in orange jumpsuits with all dispatch. This is what justice requires, nothing less.

become even more vile. Their hostility will reach new heights. The rhetoric will be designed to insight violence against Democratic lawmakers. They are not going to take losing well.

didn't go away. They wanted what the neo cons promised, a permanent one party system.

Although I would like to see the Dems take on Social Security, Bush has given them all the cover they need to make the hard choices on making sure it is solvent.
