Shall we call him and try to change his mind?

One of the hold-outs revealed.

4. Can a 'citizen' filibuster????
...that is, can any US citizen request time to testify before congress and have the effect of a filibuster?

Do we really have any individual say in how we are governed other than the 'vote', which seems to have been taken away from us via DIEBOLD? I mean really, I would not accept a gas pump, ATM, electronic payment system at WalMart that did not give me a receipt - why would I accept a voting system that did not?

Pure GOP stupidity. What happens when a DEM hacker (and I know quote a few) hacks the vote in favor of us?

Given the naivete' of the people who oversee our voting systems, I guess it's only the ethics of dems that keep us from doing what's good for the goose is what's good for the gander.

A good friend of mine made the point today that he does not trust ANY politicians. Given the tools (NSA, FBI, CIA and a total majority in all 3 branches) would ANY politico not take advantage of their majority and do what Bush is doing today? I would hope that dems would not.

What do you think?

I'm really wondering whether we should go ahead and throw out the baby with the bathwater and elect ALL new candidates. Seniority be damned. We need a new crew in Washington, with term limits - if not federally imposed, then imposed at state or local levels. Time to get rid of 'career politicians'. Believe me, it's not that complex. Any engineer could figure out how to get a bill through congress - and probably would redesign the process.

Oh yeah, George W. Bush eats boogers.

5. Nor will Landrieu
playing to the center. Both are red state Senators who need to play it safe. Same with Ben Nelson. Right now this is all playing to the base to feign a good effort to block the nomination.

13. Funny how Repuke Senators from 'blue' states don't bend over nearly as far
I guess the Dem Senators from 'red' states use lubricant, huh? :eyes:

14. I totally agree with you!
I was thinking about this today. Why is it "OK" for some Dems from red states to cave on Alito, while none of the Repubs from blue states seem to be crossing over on this one?

16. Maybe it's because the Dem 'base' is doing the bendover?
While the (so-called) Democrats in 'red' states hand out preemptive excuses, the (so-called) Democratic Senator parrots right-wing apologetics, making the same noises as a Bushbot. Funny how the Bushbot 'base' makes no such accommodation in 'blue' states.

6. I knew the minute he introduced Gonzalez for AG
he was a sellout. I've emailed him before. I'll do it again.

First it was Ben Nighthorse Campbell. Salazar might just as well go join the Republicans also.

8. I have pointed out to ken in the past that, had we wanted a right-wing
republican catholic, we could have voted for pete coors. in other words, we expect him to ACT like the democrat he ran as. don't know that it helps a lot, but his local office knows my voice by heart.

9. Poor Colorado - they've got a rubber stamp and a rubber chicken
for senators. Allard is the good boy who always does what he's told. And Salazar plays the part as a democrat but has no guts to do what's right for the people. Pathetic. I hope we can replace them both before its too late.

11. I'd say that Colorado deserves better but
we did vote for the sumbitches and we get what we deserve. Thankfully the median IQ is pretty high here in Colorado and we've learned our lesson.

10. You would think that Louisiana would be turning purple, at least.
It should be getting bluer after what's happened to that state under George W. Bush.

And Colorado? If they elected a Democratic senator in 2004, the state isn't that red. Switchhorse Campbell was originally elected as a Democrat before he defected to the dark side.

Is Salazar going to be a real Democrat??

I should think that standing on principle may mean more to Democratic voters this year and in years to come than ever before.

We need our Democratic officeholders to be true believers in the Constitution.

17. Can we have the vote first??
He's promised to vote no on Alito - you can't filibuster until we've had a vote.

Still, we're faxing his office again.

19. Working on it...Faxed and called
I told him basically..A no vote without a filibuster is a YES VOTE. Holding the filibuster, because you are afraid of the Nuke option, you've already lost it. If this is not the time to use the Filibuster..when?

Also said. Imagine what it would look like to the country and the rest of the world...The Gop had to change the rules to force Alito onto the court.

FILIBUSTER DAMMIT!

25. here dear
Washington, D.C.
U.S. Senator Ken Salazar
702 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510
(202) 224-5852 main
(202) 228-5036 fax

You can call him and tell him that THIS is what they saved the filibuster for. That Alito will give "signing statements" the force of law (like he did with the torture legislation) which says that "I'll sign this law, but I don't have to follow it because I don't like it".

You can fax him this article from today's NY times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/26/opinion/26thur1.html?pagewanted=print

with the 5th and 6th paragraphs circled..

And you can get anyone you know there in Colorado to do the same!

22. The only reason why Colorado has a Democrat Senator...
and just recently elected a Democrat majority in both houses of the state legislature for the first time since 1960...

is because of men like Ken Salazar who believe in social welfare and are not afraid about speaking up about prayer. That works well in Colorado.

I heard Salazar on local CO talk radio. He doesn't like Alito at all. But he won't go so far as filibustering. Don't like it? Well, that's what helps us keep Democrats in power in Colorado.

Coors is as big a Repuke as Frist and Delay.

I'd rather have our moderate DINO in Salazar than someone we can't influence at all.

28. Hmm, well what does talking about prayer have to do with
filibustering a Supreme Court Candidate who will give the executive branch practically carte blanche authority?

And is for Colorado turning Blue, I'm finding that there are a lot more Fort Collins/Boulder/Denver people moving in and spreading out and that helped a lot. Many of the rednecks have moved to places like South Dakota. There are still very strong fundamentalists but I doubt many of them would vote for a Dem, even a praying one. Some of the rural hispanics maybe? Do you think the Dems picked up many of the Colorado Springs military type votes?

I called his office and let him know what this constituent thinks: I'm praying for a filibuster.

23. I just called his Denver office
and told his staffers that refusing to filibuster is shameful.

I doubt it will do any good -- especially with Salazar, who is not exactly a progressive -- but whatthehell.
