QUESTIONS RE: NFL SCARE
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 06:40 AM by radfringe
Wednesday afternoon, I flip on the TV, and turn to CNN to listen to the news while I do a few chores.

I'm immediately presented with WOLF BLITZER "breathlessly" mono-droning about a dirty-bomb threat on SEVEN NFL stadiums...

a few minutes later there's a crawler and a "pop-up" headline saying the threat is not credible per DHS officials.... Wolf continues to pump the terror.

break for commerical... Wolf is back, still pumping the terror, but also now saying DHS officials do not find the threat credible.. cut to some stadium and "on-the-scene" reporter... terror...terror..terror - but people shouldn't be concerned...

My first thought was "huh? oh sh!t."
My second thought "less than 3 weeks to (s)election, GOPers in trouble... booga-booga time.. no surprise"

This is freaking George Orwell on Twilight Zone steroids...

so here are the questions the media should be asking....but won't

1. If we have a freaking terror threat on 7 stadiums - why would you tell people NOT to be freaking concerned? This is reminicent of bush telling us "don't worry - go shopping"

2. If the threat is NOT credible - why freaking announce a terror threat in the first place?

3. Why hasn't anyone asked why the stupid fake threat was announced? Who "released" the threat to the media?

GOP to air ad warning of terror attacks
Thu Oct 19, 2006
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061019/ap_on_el_ge/republican_ad_1

The Republican Party will begin airing a hard-hitting ad this weekend that warns of more cataclysmic terror attacks against the U.S. homeland.

The ad portrays Osama bin Laden and quotes his threats against America dating to February 1998. "These are the stakes," the ad concludes. "Vote November 7."

1. And why is the Secret Service being sent out to the stadiums?
I posted about this yesterday and for some reason people were hostile because I did. However, I feel the same way and it is because I do not trust this administration and am a bit concerned as to whether they f***** this up like they did with 9.11 and with Hurricane Katrina. Now they say it is a hoax and it sounds like it based on where it was posted. But again, was that done purposefully?Hopefully they did a bit more digging than conclude it was a hoax based on where it was posted. Let's just say that I don't believe anything they say one way or the other but am still vigilant as I live my life. At this point we have no other choice. I suspect they released it to scare people, as the politics of fear is all they know.... and actually, I hope that's all it is. Oh, and I have one more question: Why aren't Democrats calling them out on this stunt?

2. has anyone mentioned/reported
on the origin of the "alert"? who informed the media of it?

from what I saw on CNN - it did not seem to be the "hard work" of a reporter who "uncovered" the "plot"

the story ran like it was a "press release" or similar from "officials"

3. I believe it was Homeland Security
Which is again why I don't trust it one way or the other.

4. I heard on NBC this morning
That two guys were competing to see who could "make up" the scariest threat....

(take it for whatever you think it's worth)

7. The truth is this...
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 09:28 AM by DaDeacon
Fear rules the day but not the pigskin, to bad they didn't learn for the "path to 9/11". Wha' do you mean Deacon? Simple remember way back when I told many on this board that the path to 9/11 rebub lie of the week movie would not be seen by it's indended audience but rather ignorned. The reasoning for this was quite simple, most americans wold rather see the opening weekend of football. I was told I was crazy and that no one cared about silly sports... on and on. Well turns out "The path to 9/11" was KILLED by Sunday Night Football and Monday Night Football witch aired on cable! So what am I getting to here?
The GOP hopes to change the dialogue duing the Sunday games from "T.O." to "Oh No, is there a bomb here" It's not to scare but rather , remind, hey you are always in danger...MU'HAHAA! Will it work, in a word, No. This is one of those bad idea moments that he GOP has from time to time. They tipped their hand to try to avoid second guessing. God forbid a bomb goes off or as I have my money placed on a bomb is "discovered" with out warning people that you knew of it. Just keep your eyes open of this little "october suprise" to really hit the fan!
