What is up with my buddy, Wesley Snipes?
Wesley is on the lam because he failed to pay taxes. I think he's in an African country that doesn't have an extradition treaty with the U.S. Does anybody have info on this one? Is this going to be like Willie Nelson who trusted a bad accountant? Or is Wesley one of those guys who doesn't believe in taxes?

5. Actually, I would almost prefer blaming the smack to finding out that
your explanation is the right one.

7. Unfortunately, yes! Wikipedia says the following:
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 09:00 AM by soothsayer
The government alleges in the indictment that Snipes attempted to obtain fraudulent tax refunds using a discredited tax protester theory called the "861 argument" (essentially, an argument that the domestic income of U.S. citizens and residents should not be taxable). The indictment said Snipes used accountants who already had a history of filing false returns to obtain refund payments for their clients.<11> Under the alleged deal, the firm (American Rights Litigators) was to receive, from the clients, an amount equal to 20 percent of the tax refunds obtained for those clients. One other person was indicted with Snipes and Rosile.

<snip>

He also failed to file for a few years, tried to get millions refunded, and I think I heard an IRS lady say he sent in phoney money (monopoly money or something, or bogus checks?)

4. He's filming a movie there...
so I'm not sure if the government considers him officially on the lam?

Wesley Snipes hadn't been heard from since his indictment Tuesday for tax evasion, and some speculated he was on the lam. (Just like in "U.S. Marshals"! Let's put Tommy Lee Jones on his trail!) Now comes word he's been in Namibia, filming the zombie-thriller "Gallowwalker." Production chiefs declined comment to Bloomberg, and there was no word on when Snipes will return to the United States to face charges
