If the Democrats win the House,
will Pelosi be majority leader without a challenge?

1. Not according to this
Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's prospects for becoming the nation's first female House speaker depend not only on a Democratic victory in November but also on her ability to prevent any Democrats from voting against her -- primarily centrists opposed to her liberal stances.
At least one Democratic House candidate has pledged not to support Mrs. Pelosi, and others in conservative districts have refused to commit their support -- potentially leaving Mrs. Pelosi shy of the 218 votes required for the chamber's top post.(more)

2. I don't want to click a WashTimes link
so can I ask: does that article say who may be in the offing as an alternative?

Murtha, perhaps?

3. Murtha
will run for Majority Leader, not Speaker. Its possible Hoyer runs for Speaker.

4. I might could go for Murtha.
However, my problems with Pelosi deal with taking impeachment off the table.

7. Here
Democrat Charlie Stuart, who hopes to unseat Republican Rep. Ric Keller in Florida, already has said he opposes Mrs. Pelosi and would prefer Rep. Steny H. Hoyer, the more conservative No. 2 Democrat in the House whose strained relations with Mrs. Pelosi have been well-chronicled on Capitol Hill.

At least three other Democrats contacted by The Washington Times refused to commit their support to Mrs. Pelosi, whose San Francisco district is far more liberal than the districts that are up for grabs in this election.

(I read every source; I don't want to be naive about what the other side may be saying. Seems too ostrich like)

8. Thanks
I could live with a more conservative speaker if Murtha becomes majority leader. A good babance that takes away a lightning rod from the GOP.

But yeah, that's getting ahead of things. All I want is Somebody S. Somebody (D-Somewhere) holding the gavel. The rest is gravy.

12. I don't care which Democrat carries the title of Speaker of the House
I just want John Conyers to be carrying the gavel as Majority leader on the House Judiciary Committee. I want it so bad it hurts.

11. Hoyer may kiss my ass.
He is a wonderful orator & other than that, his "Blue dog" bs amounts to voting with the republiclowns and leaving the Party floundering on things like, oh, the Bankruptcy Bill! Great Whip!

5. You have to figure that more than a few of the representatives
would like to have that position of power.
