Former top aide to Rep. Ney (R-OH) says GOP just pretending to be anti-gay to fool Christian right
by John in DC - 10/20/2006 10:11:00 AM

Washington Post

"You have to separate the marketing from the reality. The reality is, these members are not homophobic. For the most part, they're using this marketing to play to our base and stay in power. They have to turn out the votes," said David Duncan, once a board member of the Lesbian and Gay Congressional Staff Association and a former top aide to Rep. Robert Ney (R-Ohio), who last week pleaded guilty to corruption charges linked to the Abramoff scandal.

1. In other words they are hypocrites who would rather cater to a bunch
of narrow minded bigots than stand up for civil and equal rights for all.

4. Yea, but take it one step further....
How much hate and anger and civil division are the moneyed interests behind the GOP willing to enable just to preserve tax cuts and lax regulation...

8. let me get this "straight"
GOP is being deceptive by pretending to be anti-gay in order to gain the support of the Christian right?

let's take this one step further and ask - HOW do we know that by telling us they are just pretending to be anti-gay to appease the Christian right that this isn't an appeasement to gay and lesbians?

Psstt.. you with the bible - we hate gays

Psstt.. you with the rainbow flag - we just told them that so they would support us, but we really don't mean it, so just support us too

Marketing. That's what they call stirring up hatred. Marketing. They all need a nice cold jail cell for a decade or two, those scumbuckets.

11. The Democratic Party does this, to some degree, with the
progressives and leftists in its base. I don't think that there is this level of hypocrisy, but there is a level...

18. I was saying that the Democratic Party gives lip-service to many
items of the progressive agenda without ever actually doing anything on them.

14. Ney Aid Reveals Self-Evident Truth To Everyone But Fundies....
.... and really it is a conspiracy between the top Repubs and Fundi leaders(Dobson, Falwell, etc) to manage the Fundi vote in exchange for 'power' that benefits them both.

This is no great disclosure to the rest of us --Repubs have been saying one thing and doing the opposite for political gain. Well Hello....

16. Not news to me.
I've been telling everyone who would listen for over a year now that BushCo are not Christians, could care less about fundie interests, and are primarily interested in making money for themselves and their buddies. Any cozying up they have done to the religious right is only to obtain votes that help them stay in power (thus helping them achieve their objective of making more money for themselves). Bush could care less about abortions, stem cells, gay people, whatever. He just pretends he does long enough to get their vote. Notice how the "Gay Marriage Act" went nowhere after he made a couple of speeches about it? He just wants them to think that he's representing their interests, but getting off his ass to make a speech or two is about as far as it goes.

I have wished for a long time that the fundies would wake up and realize that they are only being used by this administration. Not that I want to help them in any way, but it makes me cringe every time I hear some fundie nutjob expressing her gratitude to "our Godly President!" (or other similar rubbish). I want to take those people, and shake them, and say, "Wake the fuck up! Open your eyes! They're manipulating you, you stupid sheep!"

I don't know if it's going to happen, though. These people are well trained in the behavior of believing what other people tell them, and not well trained in the behavior of critically analyzing the input they receive.
