Their thinking is, most likely, what patriotic American could be against a war on terror? That is why they are so adamant against the idea that this war could be a civil ne (and one of our making, no less)

I think in theory, most people believe we should be at war with bin Laden (eg "War on Terror"). I think it is easier and perhaps more effective to point out that B*sh cut and ran at Tora Bora

Meaning that the Iraq occupation is not part of the WOT and is in fact an obstacle to the hunt for bin Laden.
