CNN: Repubs will be using ad featuring Osama Bin Laden
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 01:18 PM by kerry-is-my-prez
It will run Sun & Mon. CNN seems to be somewhat critical of it. Talking about how controversial it will be.

Bill Schneider doesn't think it will work.

1. I guess he needs the work.
Being an evil terrorist mastermind doesn't pay that well, when you annualize it. It's not surprising he'd be trying to score some extra dough.

Hmmmmmm. Maybe he could do a sunkist commercial, after this one.

3. Just saw the 'preview' on CNN
The 'ticking' clock in the background shown over Bin Laden's image and mass explosions. Then the words "These are the stakes.Vote Nov 7th"

Bill Schneider compares it to the Johnson ad of the 60's, with the little girl counting daisy petals and then the nuke explosion. Johnson's voice can be heard saying "These are the stakes..."

It's really the only thing they have - fear.

34. That kind of crap should be outlawed
and it's true, to me it says "We republicans have failed miserably to catch this enemy of America but give us some more time." There is no proof that democrats can't or won't catch him. I think they've worn out that 'terra terra' button and they're too stupid to know it.

4. TJ is talking about this with Bill Schneider and he said,
"Will this negate all the bad publicity we've had surrounding Foley and Ney and..."

I don't know what Bill's answer was because my mind short-circuited on the "we've" bit of his question.

Maybe I'm just imagining things?

Use that quote and feature real people that have been harassed, humiliated and detained in the last five years.

Five Degrees of Osama
FORTUNE
Wednesday, January 22, 2003
By Nicholas Stein

In December, President Bush named Thomas Kean, the former Republican governor of New Jersey, chairman of an independent commission examining the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. But FORTUNE has learned that Kean appears to have a bizarre link to the very terror network he's investigating--al Qaeda.

Here's how the dots connect: Kean is a director of petroleum giant Amerada Hess, which in 1998 formed a joint venture--known as Delta Hess--with Delta Oil, a Saudi Arabian company, to develop oil fields in Azerbaijan. One of Delta's backers is Khalid bin Mahfouz, a shadowy Saudi patriarch married to one of Osama bin Laden's sisters. Mahfouz, who is suspected of funding charities linked to al Qaeda, is even named as a defendant in a lawsuit filed by families of Sept. 11 victims. True, Hess is hardly the only company to cross paths with Mahfouz: He has shown up in dealings with, among others, ultra-secretive investment firm Carlyle Group and BCCI, the lender toppled by fraud in 1992.

Kean, who was unavailable for comment, may not have been aware of the Mahfouz connection. But Hess spokesman Carl Tursi did reveal another interesting coincidence: Three weeks before Kean's appointment, Hess severed its ties with Delta.

I'm guessing this is the Bin Laden wanted dead or alive six years ago, until bush just didn't "think about him that much."

22. How about this way
Cut to a close up of a closed front door as seen from within the house.
The doorbell rings.

The door opens, and a group of voices call out "Trick or Treat!"

A mother looks out at the kids and asks "What do we have here?

First kid steps up and shows his costume: "Boo! I'm a ghost!"
Second kid steps up and shows his costume: "Boo! I'm a vampire!"
Third kids steps up and shows his costume: "Boo! I'm Osama bin Laden!"

Mother looks at the third kid, and shaking her head asks "Is this an election year again?"

Voiceover: For the last five years, George Bush has flip-flopped on Osama bin Laden,
changing from "Wanted: Dead or Alive" to "I'm not
that worried about him" . He and his staff ignored warnings before 9/11,
and lied about it. He closed the special task-force specifically instructed to get Osama bin
Laden, and lied about it. And now, because there is an election coming up, Republicans want
you to believe that they are the only ones who can protect us from Osama bin Laden.

Maybe it's time to let someone else try. Someone who will actually pay attention to the problem
all the time, and not just during election time.

Vote Democratic. It's time for a change

31. How many swear words can I get into this subject line???
I so fucking hate those people. How DARE they drag OBL's sorry ass (whom they've FAILED at capturing) as a fucking wild card whenever they need it???? Like the way they worked over Kerry the few nights before the election?

Wonder how the families of the victims feel about seeing OBL on TV, dragged out every election like an animatronic Santa? The Dems should repsond with their own ads that say something about refusing to use OBL as an election strategy, because it only gives OBL more power when they do (which it does), and that it's INSENSITIVE to the victims of 9/11 and the families.

How fucking dare those morally-bereft pigs do this??

I've already been in a foul mood because rethugs locally have stolen almost ALL of the democrats signs in our area lately... Dirty tricks. Are they incapable of actually winning anything on their own??? Hope it backfires on them, and people vote against them because if it.

26. article: "Republicans Admit bin Laden Controls Our Wartime Strategy"
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/steven-g-brant/republicans-admit-bin-lad_b_28502.html
Republicans Admit bin Laden Controls Our Wartime Strategy

-snip-

Well, what if George Bush really isn't our Commander in Chief?

What if Osama bin Laden really is?

What? Sounds crazy? Well, I've got proof...straight from a Republican's mouth on a major national news show.

-snip-

Tonight we have proof that President Bush is actually taking his direction from Osama bin Laden. And not just bin Laden alone, but from his lieutenants too. In other words, Osama bin Laden is effectively the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States.

This fascinating admission comes from Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), the Republican chosen by her party to debate the issue of the global war on terrorism on the PBS Newshour. According to Rep. Blackburn, the reason we are in Iraq now is because Osama bin Laden has told us we must be there.

27. they're doing the same Schneider segment as I type
playing not only the ad, but the LBJ/daisy ad, as well as the Reagan/bear ad.

scare those people much, CNN? keep playing it over and over and over.

On Bended Knee, about Reagan's use of the media, showed how easily Reagan coopted the media by simply playing Reagan's image over and over, even when negative stories were being played underneath. the IMAGE was all that mattered. their coverage of this story, despite them talking about how it might not work this time, merely helps the pugs spread their fear message

just as it did during the Swiftboat smear

they know what they're doing
