Tillman: "somehow...was nurtured by fear, insecurity and .."
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 03:08 PM by cmt928
A very moving piece by Kevin Tillman and although I originally thought his brother Pat received more attention than the other 2,787 troops that lost their lives, a voice, no matter how prominant, can speak out for the TRUTH!

http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/200601019_after_pats_birthday/

After Pat's Birthday
It is Pat’s birthday on November 6, and elections are the day after. It gets me thinking about a conversation I had with Pat before we joined the military. He spoke about the risks with signing the papers. How once we committed, we were at the mercy of the American leadership and the American people. How we could be thrown in a direction not of our volition. How fighting as a soldier would leave us without a voice… until we get out.

Much has happened since we handed over our voice:

Somehow...

<snip>

Somehow nobody is accountable for this.

In a democracy, the policy of the leaders is the policy of the people. So don’t be shocked when our grandkids bury much of this generation as traitors to the nation, to the world and to humanity. Most likely, they will come to know that “somehow” was nurtured by fear, insecurity and indifference, leaving the country vulnerable to unchecked, unchallenged parasites.

Luckily this country is still a democracy. People still have a voice. People still can take action. It can start after Pat’s birthday
.

4. It's also in the Editorial forum with three votes, too, so one of them
should get to the Greatest Page eventually, and so more people will see it. I think Skinner should put it on the front page, too, but that's up to him, of course.

7. Both Tillman brothers exemplify the best of what being an American is,
Truly.
it is the lowest form of usery and politicalization that bushco has used to try and exploit their sacrifice for their nefarious ends. it sickens me.

8. such a brave letter
there is also this for anyone who is interested - an incredible (long) article in Sports Illustrated which brings the whole person of Pat Tillman into clarity http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/magazine/09/05/tillman0911/index.html
he was not a one dimensional jock - so much more - what a loss - but am glad to see his brother speaking out
