Character? Who's got it? What IS it?
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 03:07 PM by SoCalDem
Apparently the war is going fabulously, North Korea is all smoothed over, and all is well with the world.

C-Span & the white house is all atwitter with National Character week..

I agree with them.. There are lots of "characters" around these days..but then, that's not how they meant it

I always taught my sons that "character" was their internal compass. It's what you do because it's the right thing to do...when no one's looking..when you expect no accolades for your behavior.

It's returning a wallet with cash..even though no one else knows you even found the wallet (2 of my 3 have done this..the other one never found one)

It's being generous without asking for or expecting a "receipt"..

It's being a good neighbor..even to neighbors you don't know.

Everyone expects civility, but civility is NOT character.

Character is standing up for the nerdy kid, when you might receive repercussions yourself..

It's accepting blame when you deserve it. (not pawning off YOUR mistakes to others)

Character is letting someone else "shine", without feeling the need to out-do them.

Character is being unafraid to take an unpopular stance.

Character is ending a bad relationship BEFORE you go out and start a new relationship.( It's tacky to continue to pretend for your SO...until something better comes along)

True character is glimpsed in others by sidelong glances..not full stares. You do not point out YOUR character, but if you HAVE it, they will notice it.

Character is a comfy lightweight jacket...not a fur trimmed cashmere coat..

It's a perfect fit for some..with no alterations..and for others a full-time tailor cannot make that coat fit.

1. Character is what you do when you think no one is looking.
Apparently many republicans fail that test miserably.

3. Character....
....is the old cat on my lap that this morning tripped me twice on the way to my first cup of coffee and then bolted the rest of the food in her dish so she could meow at me because her dish was empty and then, after I filled her dish, pounded down more so she could puke it up under my desk before I finished my first cup of coffee-and she is STILL breathing....

4. Count Character, the new Halloween character. Just need a
Cheney mask, a Dracula cloak, horns headband, and a rifle. To be accompanied by his faithful manservant Whittington, a white-haired dude with blood and buckshot holes in his face. Whittington constantly tells Count Character, "I'm sorry, master. I'm sorry, master."
