Ft. Meade Building Fire Hits Six Alarms
Image

Mike Perry Sky Eye Chopper 13
Reporting

(WJZ) Ft. Meade, MD WJZ.COM has learned of a six-alarm fire in Ft. Meade.

Firefighters have evacuated the office building amid fears the building could collapse.

Smoke from the burning building could be seen from as far as Southern Baltimore.

Officials say they do not know why the military building at 4554 Llewellyn Avenue caught fire. They do say, however, the building is not actively used by the military.

24. That Looks Like A Pretty Modern Office Building
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 05:50 PM by Beetwasher
On a military base. Is it possible for a building, that ostensibly has fire alarms, sprinklers etc., and probaby hundreds of employees, to suffer that much fire damage so quickly if the fire was accidental in nature? Just asking cuz I really don't know, but that is a BIG fire. How far could they be from firetrucks and support?

I bet it'll turn out that it's a steel framed building, whadday think? And after it goes down Bushco will point to it and say "See, there's another steel-frame building that collapsed from fire! That makes four!"

There may be intelligence records there, but none of them that would still be classified. It's an unsecure building, on an unsecure part of the base.

...much, right now. But, later on, someday...when we read a "small" news story about how records that were necessary to prosecute a Republican for wrongdoing had, unfortunately, been destroyed in a fire at a Ft. Meade office building...

Who knows? As Judy Tenuta, the petite flower of comedy, would say, "It could happen!"

BTW, I watched the NBC4 broadcast this evening and they said firefighters are having trouble because there is not enough water (or water pressure, I don't know which) with which to fight the fire. Unbelievable. Now a 6-alarm blaze. From the live pics I saw, it looks as if the whole complex is a total loss -- completely engulfed in flames.

57. My first thought: Maybe they're sure the Democrats are going to take
one or both houses of congress; need to get rid of evidence. But then, Bush's corruption goes beyond our having to rely on intelligence reports to weed out corruption.

You just may be right about Fitzgerald needing some files.

We know too well what this administration is capable of doing.

60. I think this is bigger than Valerie Plame.
I think it's to do with the wiretaps.

And maybe something bigger.

Like Halliburton's work on the Iranian nuclear facilities we're supposedly so concerned about.

Or bigger still.

Looks like the fire is burning some admin building of a (tactical?) army intelligence unit--not NSA buildings.

71. Sprinkled buildings. It's not a breakfast cereal.
Corporate America does not keep their precious billing info or other hard copy
records in un sprinkled buildings. I wish some investigative author would research
the history of fires in this country that have destroyed military records thereby
preventing billions of dollars worth of VA claims by WWII and post WWII
veterans.
Records that are irreplaceable kept in fire trap rooms.
How about a GAO investigation?
How about a Congressional investigation?
What could possibly be the excuse?
If such is the case with this fire and the records are not
digitally stored then a fish is stinking in the Netherlands.

73. They can't put out a fire in Ft. Meade, post 911. Imagine that.
An epicenter for NSA, mil research &intel, defense & Homeland Security would surely have lots of reliable equipment and contingency plans for protecting themselves as a target of any fire-related incident.

Golly, they deserve an "F" in terra preparedness.

Fishy. Fishy.

77. counter espionage ... Military thats the real CIA
The six-alarm fire at Fort Meade started shortly before 4 p.m. in a building whose contents are "sensitive in nature," said Fort Meade spokeswoman Jennifer Downing.

The building contains the 902nd Military Intelligence Group Command, the Army's largest counter-espionage unit, according to the group's Web site.

Lt. Col. James Peterson, director of emergency services at Fort Meade, would not say what kind of work was going on inside Building 4554.

Strong winds hampered efforts to contain the blaze at the three-story brick building, which was evacuated. Part of the roof collapsed onto a lower floor before the fire was contained.

"We don't really know the cause. We just know it started on the roof of the structure," Peterson said.

That's the first thing that pops in my mind. But of course, there is such a thing as online storage, off-site storage, backups and backups of backups. At least if you're interested in protecting the *cough* Homeland.

Ya know what? I smell a skunk.

86. "In an unfortunate event, the intelligence that could have prevented
the 9 city dirty bomb attack by Al Qaida was destroyed in a fire that consumed the building where the intelligence was held, at Ft. Meade, last October." - some bullshit "conclusion" by a future "Commission" to cover up a government sponsored false flag operation of the near future???

My tinfoil hat is THICK and ROBUST. :tinfoilhat:

However, it could just be a regular old fire in a regular old building that archived some decades old intellgence. So, maybe it's nothing. I hope so.

Fire Damages Fort Meade Office Building

By BRIAN WITTE
Associated Press Writer

FORT MEADE, Md. -- A fire at the Army base that houses the National Security Agency heavily damaged a building containing "sensitive" materials Friday afternoon, base officials said.

There were no serious injuries, officials at Fort Meade said.
