America says "thank you" for the gift of Michael J. Fox, to our neighbors in the North!

4. As an American suffering with MS,
I have come to love him for his outspokenness on this issue.

They even got him, originally a Canadian, to say "Missourah" the way the locals do.

Doesn't everyone?

Those suffering from Parkinson's aren't the only ones being denied treatment from stem cells. Those of us with significant immune system problems hate these dogmatic assholes too.

20. Actually, We Say "Mizz-oor-ee" not "Mizz-oor-uh"
I was born and raised there, and lived there for most of my life (until I got the good sense to move somewhere with better weather), and I've never heard a Missourian use the "uh" ending unless they were from somewhere else!

24. Must be a different part of the state.
We used to have neighbors who were born and raised in Rolla, and that's how they said it.

Not uh. But, I lived in the Ozarks part of the state to the south.

39. Uh, no....
I hear people say Mizz-er-ah all the time. I think that the urban areas of Kansas City and St. Louis tend to be more Mizz-er-ee and the center/southern portion of the state uses Mizz-er-ah.

5. he probably did not take any medication
before they taped the ad. I have heard him say that without his medication he can't stop moving. Whenever he does interviews or any acting he has to time his meds so they "kick in" right before the camera goes on so he is not jumping all around.

12. What you are seeing is called dyskinesia.
There comes a time when the Parkinson's meds will no longer control the involuntary muscle movements and you are constantly moving. My mom had PD for 23 years and she had this type of movement.
We need the stem cell research to get on track and find cures or medical control for these diseases.

6. Very powerful & very true
October 17, 2006,Will be remembered as the Enabling day of the 21st Century!
"The government will make use of these powers only insofar as they are essential for carrying out vitally necessary measures..."
~Adolf Hitler, March 23, 1933, before the German Parliament (Reichstag) as he urged them to pass his "Enabling Act"

where I posted this powerful ad earlier:
"I found this one to be pretty incredible as well. This is extremely powerful stuff.

Sick fucks just do not get it, do they? I think it is because they aren't sick, they'd probably feel differently if it was them who was sick.

15. I watched it earlier today and I still haven't gotten it out of my mind.
One of the most poignant and powerful political ads I've ever seen. Bless MJF for putting his vulnerable condition out there to help other people. He is truly brave to have done this. I shudder to think of what kind of smear attacks he will endure from this group of heartless Republicans. They haven't got a decent bone in their bodies so you know they will do it. McCaskill gets a donation from me tonight.

Edited on Sat Oct-21-06 03:19 PM by Penndems
I was thinking when I first viewed this ad that I hadn't seen him for awhile, either on the silver screen on or television. Just assumed it was due to his advanced Parkinson's.

Since I don't watch "Boston Legal", I didn't realize he had a reoccuring role. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

23. I'm sure Talent will now smear MJF
Claire has run an ad with a returning Iraq veteran where he discusses how it took him six months to get an appointment with the VA. The ad then discussed how talent has voted to cut VA funding.

Who does Talent go after? THE SOLDIER. He and his henchmen have been demanding that this soldier open his records to "prove" that it took six months for an appointment. This young man suffers from PTSD and now is feeling stalked and harassed. He's refused to give these swamp creatures one damn bit of his medical records.

See how much Republicans 'support our troops'? They've been relentless in going after this guy.

Edited on Sat Oct-21-06 03:17 PM by Penndems
They haven't worked with some of the biggest movers and shakers in this town like I have, they don't know what I know, and they haven't seen what I've seen. 'Nuff said.

Some of the comments posted on DU from that website convinced me that FR is populated with one too many individuals who are both intellectually and emotionally retarded (for lack of a better description).

These are the same clowns who used to send letters to the White House Communications Office during the Clinton Administration reading, "Dear Bill, may God have mercy on your liberal soul" - and missives far more threatening than that. I used to see them outside the gates, along Pennsylvania Avenue, demonstrating against whatever issue it was Democrats supported. They always had a chip on their shoulder, a scowl on their collective faces, and a bug up their butt about something - always.

"So this is the underbelly of America", I used to think to myself.

32. Anyone who voted against embryonic stem cell research funding
in congress does not deserve to be re-elected. Putting religious fanatics before suffering people is just wrong.

He's so brave. As someone else mentioned, I'm betting he didn't take his medication on purpose for this ad.That takes balls.
