Defend CNN from right-wing spin re: Iraq footage!
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 11:07 PM by LuckyTheDog
CNN is being called "traitorous" because the network aired excerpts of a video made by the insurgents showing the insurgents killing soldiers. The tape was no doubt disturbing. But it also shows the reality of what is going on -- and probably reveals valuable information about insurgent tactics.

Predictably, the GOP echo chamber is calling for CNN to be thrown out of Iraq. Some have called for CNN to be criminally prosecuted for daring to reveal the graphic, ugly truth.

Now, I know that we all have had our problems with CNN. But, we cannot allow the far right to intimidate journalists for showing the truth. Please write letters to the editor and call in to radio talks shows to counter this horrible spin. Freedom of the press -- and our right to know -- has to be defended.

1. If CNN will stand up for themselves I will defend them
If they fold like a cheap suit and apologize like I expect them to do, fuck 'em.

2. But it's not really about them
This is really about us and what we should and should not be "allowed" to know.

5. I agree, but how can we respect any media outlet
that gives up that easily? Perhaps I'm prejudging them, but based on past behavior, I fully expect them to grovel at *'s feet and run yet another "Flyboy's Story" to atone for their straying from the reservation. The only thing we can do is contact CNN and DEMAND that they grow a pair and stand up for their responsibility as journalists to tell the facts to the public. If they won't do it, it ain't our fault.

3. Be prepared to hit the "fuck 'em" button pretty often
I don't have to hold the bar very high before they fail to jump it. They owe more to the rich corporatist shareholders on the board of directors of Time Warner than they do to the American worker.

6. remember the CNN reporter who was in Baghdad during Gulf War??
RW jumped on him and on CNN; they said he was only broadcasting Iraq propaganda.

Of course that was the war that 'trained' the US to view war as fabulous fireworks, few US deaths, AND a 'quick and painles victory.' Any pictures of destruction or civilian casualties HAD to be LIES.
