Alabama GOP Chair Employs Strange Gay-Bashing Campaign Tactic
ANNISTON, Ala. - Recorded messages left by the state Republican chairman on telephones in a northeast Alabama House district accuse the Democratic incumbent of supporting "an openly lesbian candidate" and urge his defeat to stop "the gay-rights agenda."

The incumbent, Rep. Leah Fite of Jacksonville, on Thursday called the attack "nasty politics" that has angered residents in the district.

The automated message, featuring the voice of Alabama GOP chairman Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh, was left on answering machines in House District 40 in Calhoun County. The message attempts to link Fite with Patricia Todd, who is openly gay and won the Democratic primary in Birmingham's House District 54.

"Patricia Todd will work to legalize same-sex marriage and gay adoption. Lea Fite even told The Anniston Star, I quote, 'I've always been a liberal,' and his support of an openly lesbian candidate proves it. Let's vote 'no' on the gay-rights agenda by voting 'no' on liberal Lea Fite," Cavanaugh said on the recording, The Star reported.

4. Apparently so.
I just googled. Twinkle is a woman - see, I'd been thinking if it was a man named Twinkle, he would obviously have some ISSUES going way back to the playground.

Twinkle. What was going through her parents' heads? Now that's child abuse!

6. They're talking about this in Dothan, of all places
which I'm sure you know it's about 70% GOP and the concensus here is it's dirty politics. I think it's gonna backfire.

8. Yeah it's weird for sure
I have a friend that works in the property tax office here and she hears freaking everything! Which is how I hear everything lol. Anyway, she called and told me about this a couple days ago. Apparently no one is talking about anything else. That seems really odd to us because usually people in Dothan go out of their way to ignore the rest of the state lol.
