Helen Thomas' Washington: Victory for Dems could mean a change in Iraq



She's been saying it all along: the war in Iraq is a disaster. And she hopes the rest of America is waking up and realizing that Iraq has become another Vietnam.

In her weekly podcast with The Chronicle's Marc Sandalow, veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas says the U.S. has torn Iraq apart. "Get out. Yesterday," she says.

Will the upcoming elections be a referendum on the war? Absolutely, she says.

Aside from the Iraq war, Helen says one of the greatest faults of the Bush administration is how it has injected religion into everything. She also thinks George W. Bush is a true believer, and "therein lies the fault."
