Fundie reviews of various movies. You have to see it to believe it.

http://capalert.com/capreports/

Although I will give them points for condemning the fundie characters in Silent Hill.

Edit: And I'll be sleeping for a while, so don't expect responses from me for a few hours.

12. They even had demonstrations of all the dances
under consideration for that spot on legislative time. Some of our state representatives even joined in.

4. The Sixth Sense
I took a look at this one because it was on the tube last night and is an outstanding movie in many ways.

http://capalert.com/capreports/sixthsense.htm

Here's the summary of the sexual content:

-sexual innuendo as Willis gets out of bed in front of a woman
-cleavage, breast bulge
-adult underwear
-sexual anatomy reference
-series of shower room misted nudity
-developing adultery

and the CAP thermometer:

In other words, if you're looking for a steamy sex-laden movie, this isn't it. Unless, of course, you're so sexually repressed that that breast bulge and adult underwear really gets you rolling.

5. Bowling for Columbine. (These fundies are truly nuts)
So, here's the religious-based outrage about the gun violence portrayed in the movie:

Wanton Violence/Crime (W)

  • bomb destruction and carnage, repeatedly
  • display of multiple firearms, many
  • gunfire for show
  • gunfire killing with gore
  • hunting gunfire
  • firearm in public store
  • target shooting and other recreational shooting
  • bombing victim gore - child
  • teen manufacturing incendiary devices with "Anarchist's Cookbook"
  • police action killing
  • murder/violent death gore, many
  • battle victim - child
  • replay of 9-11 horrors
  • images of Kosovo warfare
  • many dead decimated bodies from Kosovo
  • apparently actual file footage of Columbine carnage
  • interviews with murder Columbine witnesses
  • insert of *Matrix* gunfire violence
  • insert of video game violence
  • additional piles of dead bodies
  • repeated civil unrest with beatings and gunfire violence
  • insert of uses of firearms to kill in and as entertainment
  • cartoon carnage, including beheading
  • injury gore
  • interview with illegal gun dealer
  • file footage of racial beating
  • leg amputation in a movie
  • actual recording of school shooting murder of a six year old by a six year old

But here's the most scathing criticism of the movie:

Regarding Moore's spin on things, consider this. He tells us that the 11,127 gunfire killings in the US are many times more than any other country and spends much time in interviews trying to find out why. And in those interviews, Moore almost invisibly transposes "gunfire killings" to "gunfire murders" carefully avoiding that many of those killings are by lawful actions such as police action and citizens saving their own lives and those of their family.

...

And poor K-Mart. Moore showed up on the doorstep of corporate K-Mart with two of the Columbine victims, claiming there were K-Mart 9mm bullets still in these boys, wanting to return the bullets. Never mind that Harris and Klebold could have bought the bullets anywhere. But since Harris and Klebold chose to buy them at K-Mart, Moore decided to crucify K-Mart, as if K-Mart were responsible for the decisions of Harris and Klebold to murder the Columbine students.

Gotta love this selective application of the teachings of Jesus. Or maybe I missed the part where he said, "Verily, be it known to you that lawful killing is okay but murder is a sin." And don't forget JC's spin on personal responsibility in talking to Pilate, "Hey, get out of my face! If not me, then some other messiah was going to fire up these idiots."

8. All the Pretty Horses
got a better cap score than 101 Dalmations? (30 for Horses, 87 for 101)

I haven't seen the movie but if it was one quarter as violent as the book, I don't want to.

9. In the movie "Antz," there was sexually suggestive eye movements
Oh, my gawd! Think of the CHILDREN!

Brokeback Mountain-- (2005), R -- ...one of the most sly and cunning anti-Christian films ever produced.

NOTE: In this addendum I use "practitioner of homosexuality", "practicing homosexuality" and "the practice of homosexuality" instead of "gay" for three reasons. One, "gay" is one of man's labels. The one who chooses to practice homosexuality deserves more respect than a label since s/he is as precious to Jesus as s/he who does not. Jesus hates some of our chosen behaviors, not us. Two, having same-sex sexual attraction (SSA), if it exists, does not make one "gay." Acting on SSA does. Three, performing homosexual behavior is not a biological condition or innate property, it is a choice. Indeed, every single non-autonomic movement of the human body is a choice. No exceptions. No debate. These facts make the practice of homosexuality a matter of personal accountability.

With a final score of 70 out of 100, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe earned a place in the range of scores earned by PG films (68 to 86 out of 100) in the comparative baseline database. However, that score places this film with only two points between it and the top of the the PG-13 scoring range (55 to 67 out of 100).

Though a delightful and moving children's tale with incredible accuracy about the true meaning of Christmas, Charles Schultz used some spices in the form of slapstick cartoon violence similar to "Buggs Bunny/Road Runner"(tm) violence and some attitude in Lucy van Pelt . An episode of Snoopy spinning Charlie and Linus around with Linus' blanket on the ice then Charlie slamming through the snow on the bank into a tree trunk is certainly not something a child is likely to emulate but it is action violence. And, although a "trademark " of the Peanuts (tm) style, Lucy's threats to hit other characters to intimidate them into submission with her seemingly constant hateful, name-calling attitude can most certainly be reasonably duplicated by children.

# lust for vengeance and planning revenge
# coaching to take revenge, coaching to sin

Murder/Suicide (M)

In the bright and colorful format of animation, Blessing in Disguise - The Joseph Story (Genesis Chapters 37 - 50) is an excellent tool for you to teach your children the blessings of choosing to forgive rather than the sin of seeking revenge. More on this below.

I almost felt bad about the CAP analysis model generating a final score as seemingly low as 73 for this first in a 13-episode series of Bible-oriented animated features from Bugtime Adventures. But I cannot manipulate the scoring and the CAP analysis model is strictly objective. The model will not compromise the scoring for the sake of even Biblical context in a film.

10. I found the most dense, off topic one!
From "Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring" (breaks added to stop it from bieng a wall of text)

"There are inevitable comparisons being drawn between Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by the secular worldview and the Christian faith.

Comparisons are not being drawn between the two movies under any other "religion" I am aware of, not the Muslim or Tao or Jewish faiths or any other faith, just the Christian faith which is under more attack than any other faith.

Maybe the Christian faith is under more attack than any other faith because it is the "right one": the one faith that poses the greatest and maybe the only real threat to the adversary."
