Real Time last night rocked. Maher, Barney Franks and Jason
Alexander wiped the floor with the neocon Steve Moore. Barney, in particular, sliced, diced, and handled this clueless "moran" with ease.

I was cheering along with the audience every time Barney took Moore down and pinned him to the mat with his own words. I understand completely now why the Wall Street Journal editorial board is so useless. Moore was booed and laughed at repeatedly. And then Maher's New Rules took on the neocon "think tanks" and ridiculed them and told them to shut up. Stevie couldn't be happy about that little riff. Excellent show.

I had already turned off the computer last night and after the show didn't feel like booting back up to see if any DUers enjoyed the slap down as much as I did. A cursory DU search turned up nothing. So, did anyone enjoy that show as much as I did? Best of the season so far. Should be required viewing for every Dem.

1. I watched Barney Frank slice and dice conservatives
in the State House in Boston when he was a local Rep, and he was magnificent. I later had the pleasure of voting him into Congress. He's been at this a very long time and he hasn't lost his stride at all.

I hope that'll be on You Tube or C&L soon. I've missed him.

5. Beat me to it.
I've love watching Barney since those days too. He's not only smart and quick-thinking, he's witty enough to have upstaged Maher twice on last night's show.

Barney takes no prisoners.

2. Franks told Moore
that he was bereft of ideas. And it was true. Moore kept pulling plays from Limbaugh's play book, just making things up, using hypotheticals, putting words in someone else's mouth because he (Moore) had no ideas of his own. All Moore could do was make stuff up about his opposition.

And Franks called him on it, time and again. By the end of the discussion Moore looked like he was suffering from dyspepsia.

It was GREAT!

4. I loved it
Barney Franks had a way of cutting to the chase and staying on point that was so refreshing. I need to e-mail him tell him how much I enjoyed hearing the truth last night.

6. There were a few threads about it last night

I watched the show too. I thought it was great. Jason Alexander didn't hardly get any talk time, but Barney really made Steve Moore look like an idiot.

Which, I have to say, doesn't seem too hard to do. Did anybody else sit there wondering how the heck Steve Moore got the job as the Wall Street Journal Editor? I mean, the guy is a total putz. I had never seen Moore before, but before he spoke, I had in my mind what to expect from the guy. I at least thought he'd be fairly intelligent. What I got was a guy who would have seemed like a putz to all the nerds in "Revenge of the Nerds". Everything about him just oozed complete moron.

I'll bet all the folks who work at the WSJ just cringed at how bad he looked last night.

P.S. - I thought his worst moment came when he got all glassy eyed talking about how torture is great, and how most Americans want their tortures to be like Agent Jack Bauer on the show "24". I just had to laugh at how incredibly stupid that sounded. He sounded like a kid getting excited about the "Terminator" or something. I had to laugh when Bill Maher said "you realize that's just a tv show, right?"

15. you can listen to it as a podcast.
You miss the visuals, which occasionally means something is missed, but I find that it's still pretty entertaining. (I don't pay for HBO)

I don't think an iPod is necessary (I have one- great for listening to RealTime and Countdown in the truck.) As long as you have iTunes, I believe you can download and listen, and it's free. You can subscribe either through iTunes directly or at the hbo web site.

8. I was just talking to my sister.....
who called me to tell me exactly what you're saying. I didn't watch it but will catch it when it gets to on demand.

She was also impressed with Jason Alexander. She never knew George Costanza was so thoughtful and eloquent. LOL

14. Jason is very articulate and smart but he wasn't needed last night.
Jason has been on before and he does seem to fold when you get to the argument of torture in order to "save his son." I understand his point but disliked he couldn't get the argument Franks made several times that while we admire our police and service people we can't depend on them to be perfect and we need a way to ensure people arrested are given the opportunity to defend him or herself.

Moore has really lowered the combined IQ average on WSJ editorial board by at least 20 points. Didn't Moore create some kind of a think tank that ended up splitting up? I can't remember the name or the details.

Hopefully some one will post the video of the highlights of the show. Even Maher's interviews with Bill Richardson at the beginning of the show and the interview with David Kuo were outstanding. Moore r-e-a-l-l-y picked a bad night to go on the show.

17. "Club For Growth" was his think tank
He parted company with it last year apparently - maybe he got kicked out for being too dumb!

10. It was one of the better shows!

It was pretty funny when Bill Maher told Barney & Jason to
ease up on Steve Moore or Moore won't come back on the show.

12. Speaking of the Wall Street Journal editorial board.....
I watched Bret Stephens of that same board interviewed a week or so ago on cable. He chilled me to the bone: a privileged, never-gotten-his-hands-dirty warmongering little creep. He can't wait for us to go to war with Iran. I wanted nothing so much as to instantly transport his ass into the middle of the stench and terror of actual war, so he could find out first hand what he is condemning others to.

18. Here's a thread from the initial airing
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2444535&mesg_id=2444535

It was a great show and Barney shamed Moore so badly it's a wonder he stayed for the whole show.

I dropped Barney a note after the show to thank him for bringing facts to that panel.

If you go to hbo.com (the link is in a post at the bottom of that thread) you can watch the "after show", which has two additional new rules and Bill and the panel answering questions submitted from the internet. It is a very interesting continuation of the panel, only available on the net. Enjoy!
