Buying a Pizza Shop with a tax cut?
I'm sorry, our liberal radio station goes off the air at sunset, so I was channel surfing and got stuck in an IQ whirlpool, so to speak, when the station landed on Hannity (ughh) for about 20 seconds where one of his callers said "I took my taxes cuts and started a pizza business." Okay, while I am no business wizard, doesn't stating a business cost at least $20k, and likelihood when you take everything into account including hiring employees approaching $100k? Nobody makes that much money with a tax cut except the top .2%. Those callers are so fake it's nauseating.

1. ROFL - I'm opening my own Boutique Store!!!
I'm just about $29,400 short, if I'm the sole employee and work 12 hours days. Do you think it will work, can I raise the funds off of my $600 tax cut? ROFL

Freaking Idiots.

2. The amount of taxes they get from a person making $50k/yr gross is ~$17k
Which means the amount of tax would have to be $0.00.

That guy is a pizza face.

5. I'm trying to start a business on a shoestring....
Still, my idea is more software and electronics based so it does not involve many upfront costs. I suppose if their family income was well into the six figures and they saved their tax cuts over 5 years it may be possible to make that much. But that scenario does not create new wealth, it just makes the rich richer.

14. Dead on. A "Pizza Shop" enriches the guy with the money..and
might create another low wage, no benefits, McJob.

4. The tax cut could have been the nudge over his present savings...
However, you're right. I wouldn't think you could (reasonably) touch a pizza business for less than $100k (unless a present owner financed it) and it never ceases to amaze me how much callers lie...

...or how little LIFE these wealthy people seem to have to have the time to call up these shows and wait on hold!

On Thom Hartmann's BBS, for example, there's this one guy, "Sawdust" who is a neverending source of right wing talking points.

Somehow, even though he is, by his own boast, RICH, he seems to have an endless fountain of time to stick his right wing talking points into almost every message thread...

Sawdust has NEVER called the show, nor does he do the chat room...

6. Proof that tax cuts give us more service industry jobs.
But, was it really the tax cut... or the prospect of hiring people with a master's degree or 30 years of working for GM to deliver his pizzas for minimum wage/tips?

7. "Proof that tax cuts give us more service industry jobs."
Why doesn't the dem party pound that into the ground? More people are starting to see the truth of it.

15. You're talking about the same party that passed NAFTA.
You have Democrats, but too many of them are leaning towards neoliberalism.

9. I was thinking that too
If the call was real, which I think is unlikely, the caller probably already was relatively wealthy and the tax cuts enabled him to create more minimum wage jobs, so that he could attempt to solidify his position as a big fish in a small pond, in the community. What ever happened to innovation? Crating NEW wealth? The only innovation these days is in weaponry, and the only new wealth created is the wealth passed down to the sons and daughters of existing millionaires.

8. Pizza is a very low overhead business
A rented building
Used equipment
A phone line
Some permits
A bag of flour, a can of sauce, some cheese.

You don't need employees to start.

It can be done on the cheap. That's why pizza shops are in every small hamlet and village in the country.

Still, if it's true, it was probably a tax cut put with some savings.

11. He did say he hired employees
Of course I'm sure he pays his employees as little as he can possibly can, after all that's the American way these days, and of course surely does not offer any kind of benefits or health insurance. But point taken. Some of the best pizza in our neighborhood is delivered from a small business that does not even have a storefront.

Great growth industry. Recession-proof.
Maybe I'll open a debtor's prison, too.
