What are home prices... in Iraq?
The reason I ask is... how much have we spent in Iraq so far? It's been at least $300 billion so far, but I've read it may surpass over $1 trillion.

There are 26 million people in Iraq. Considering only $300 billion spent, we could have bought each family of 4 a home for $46,000. My guess is homes cost a LOT less than that in American dollars. With the amount of money we've spent we could have built them all homes and schools and rebuilt a lot of their infrastructure without losing a single life.

1. Instead of an Army of Soldiers, we should have sent in an Army of
Construction teams. Set up about 200 Home Depots and Lowes stores, and there's your plan for "keeping the peace".

2. Or something similar
$300 billion is $11k for every man woman and child in Iraq. There could have been many other routes toward achieving peace with that kind of money. Instead the best idea Neocons could come up with is "kill'em all."

6. Appear to be a lot of homeless iraqis (not surprisingly I guess)
2005 article

The main reason for terrible living conditions for thousands of Iraqis is that many houses have been destroyed over years of conflict in the country.
<snip>

“This number may shock the international humanitarian organisations but it’s the reality of Iraq now,” D’lemi said. “Our government is working hard to reverse this statistic, but we need very large investment.”

He added that the number could be much higher than their records suggest, since many homeless people have not been registered due to the prevailing insecurity in Iraq.

At a conference held in Jordan in November 2004 by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, known as UN-Habitat, and Iraqi government officials it was stated that Iraq needed 1.5 million new homes to cover needs, confirming the vast scale of the problem, but lack of funds has delayed the process.
