Myke Shelby, also known as "New York Myke," is a radio talk show host, and also the owner of San Diego Harley-Davidson. Most of his commercials in San Diego for his motorcycle shop include some little right-wing or pseudo-patriotic comment. Currently he is running a commercial in support of the Iraq war (despite the fact that he is a Vietnam vet himself.) However, I don't see him going over there to fight the war. (oops - apparently the link on that page to the .wmv file isn't working. Basically he says in the commercial that we should stay in Iraq and "finish the job" until the Iraqis can handle it themselves.

if he's a 'Nam vet, he's not a chickenhawk. He's just stupid. Not to mention, a wee bit too old to go "fight the war" at this point.

who lied and said he was when he wasn't. You can always contact him and ask him when and where he served. That should be interesting; to have served in another wrongheaded war and still be in support of a mistake killing thousands? That would take a special kind of stupid...!

8. My uncle was a Marine in Vietnam,

and he is very much against the Iraq fiasco, has been from the beginning. He says he wishes he were as smart in '67 as he is now, or he would have told the draft board where they could shove it and refused to serve. At the same time, he says many of his fellow vets are divided over Iraq, which saddens him to no end.

3. If he's a Vietnam vet, I think that disqualifies him as a "chickenhawk"

"Chickenhawks", I believe, are those who pound their chests the loudest when it comes to sending others into combat, but have not fought in a war themselves (and did everything they could to weasle their way out of service).

One of the biggest opponents to the weekly peace vigil I participated in was a Vietnam combat veteran. He said he opposed anti-war protests because of his experience in the '60s and '70s when he was fighting and felt demonized by the anti-war movement then.

Whether you agree with him or not, because he is a combat veteran I wouldn't call him a chickenhawk.
