Uh-oh, I was afraid this might happen
I've long suspected that if backed into a tight enough corner the Republicans would break out their best and their brightest. That time has come-

Bill Crozier, a Union City Republican going against incumbent Democrat Sandy Garrett, said he believes old textbooks could be used to stop bullets shot from weapons wielded by school intruders.

If elected, he said he would put thick used textbooks under every desk for students to use in self-defense.

He gave Eyewitness News 5 a videotape showing he and others shooting weapons, such as an AK-47 and a 9 mm pistol, at books in a field near Minco. They conducted the experiment to see how far bullets would penetrate the books.

..."We need to look at protection of young people that sometimes people may think you are a little smarter than everybody else or a higher IQ or whatever. They need to look at what the end result would be," Crozier said.

Representatives for current Superintendent Sandy Garrett said they had no comment on Crozier's ideas.

You just know that Bill searched long and hard for a way to use his text books.

5. Bill also stated that he would resurrect Bruce Lee to show the kids
how to move with "lightning speed" when pulling the book from under the desk, positioning the book in front of the speeding bullet and deflecting it back at the bad guy. :eyes:

in the neighboring county, promised that he would fight to get legislation passed making it mandatory that all new text book covers are made of steal. In promoting his brave new initiative, Bubba said "why that way, the kids will get the exercise they need carrying around the books and can use them to protect themselves from the flying bullets. It's a win-win solution."

12. I'm glad my dad isn't around to see this
He spent his whole life being teased by his kids about being an Okie. One of us would find an article like this and wave it in his face and he'd just shake his haed slowly.

If Oklahoma can produce men like my dad it can't be all bad....

always don't go towards gun control... talk about homeschooling all children nationwide to stop school shootings.. or using textbooks as vests...(what about children in grammar school who don't have huge textbooks? What about them? I'm not sure a work of art on craft paper would do the job).

16. LOL! This is one of the funniest things I've ever seen!
John Goodman will have to play him in the movie. I watched the long boring video and it was like a scene from a Coen Bros. movie. Funny as hell.

And did you notice the symbolism of the books he was shooting holes in? A book about languages (with other countries' flags on the cover), a calculus textbook, and a phone book. Can you say nationalism, anti-intellectualism, and anti-common good?

I'm gonna send this link to some of my favorite people. Everyone could use a laugh, I'm sure. Oh, and I have to say I'm glad that guy is not a Kansan (sorry Okies!). We have enough wingnuts and get enough bad press. LOL! Thanks, Rose, for brightening my day with a good laugh!

18. Why can't you just use the textbooks you use everyday?
If I thought my textbooks would protect me, I wouldn't be rooting around for old textbooks. I would grab the one on the desk in front of me that I'm using. Are these people really that dumb?

19. It's true you can't shoot through, say, the average big city phonebook,
but I suppose any crazed gunman would probably not aim for the textbook you are holding up in front of yourself as a shield.

I don't really understand the insanity that must overtake someone to shoot up a bunch of school children, but surely we can come up with better ideas than this to solve the problem, such as it is.

20. I just watched the beginning again
no way can I sit through it twice--unless it becomes a scene in a Coen Bros. film. LOL. Then I'll watch it 20 times!

So anyway, I missed a textbook the first time. Earth Science. Anti-environment. Isn't that perfect? Wow. Fiction doesn't get any better than this!  :applause:

Every Republican knows you're supposed to burn books, not shoot at them.
