Hummer 2
Any good info on them to pass on to my friends that seem to think that there is nothing wrong with them. They said that the Hummer 2 gets over 20 mpg.... Any links to stats that blow that out of the water???? (I e-mailed a link and article from Wikpedia that stated the mpg as 8 - 14) Plus do you have any other links that talk about why Hummers are such obvious metaphors to the selfish gluttony of the American People?

2. I'll be interested in reading replies... as for me...
Edited on Sat Oct-21-06 02:46 PM by hlthe2b
this is one area I freely admit to being far too biased to even try to objectively comment. I have a visceral reaction when I see a Hummer in the parking lot. Now, big ass SUVs piss me off in general, since I have too often been the recipient of a 2-inch side margin when they park next to me (which has had me crawling through the tailgate hatch on more than one occasion . But, even the Ford Expedition doesn't evoke in me the abject contempt that a Hummer does.

So, I'll be interested to read your replies... Good luck...

5. You need to keep a few BIG labels and a sharpie in your car
BIG labels, that go on BIG packages, about half the size of a bumper sticker.

You run into that situation again, you squeeze into your car, pull around, park again, grab that sharpie, write "DOES THIS CAR MAKE MY PENIS LOOK BIGGER?" and slap that baby on their bumper! Odds are they won't even see it when they waddle back to their ride, and they'll give people behind them the laugh of the week...

13. On Moyers recent series, one of the interviewees said much the same!
It was his "Faith and REason" series, and she was speaking as a Christian, and said, to the effect of, "I know it's 'wrong', but when I see a Hummer, I just want to drive 'em off the road!"

I still laugh when I think of her interview! Honesty is great. :)

~~running out for some big labels and a Sharpie~~

3. Maybe they mean the H3???
Edited on Sat Oct-21-06 02:53 PM by MADem
Hummer is a synonym for Asshole, frankly. When Ahhhhh-nuld dumps them as his vehicle of choice, it's OVER. And there's too damn many of them that they'd ever achieve EDSEL fame in an antique market in future years.

But hey, if your friends want to be future members of the "Point and Laugh" Club, what can you do? Just tell them if they buy the thing, to not park it near your house, EVER.

On edit==that MUST BE what they mean==this article claims it CAN get 'as much as' 20 MPG...yeah, probably rolling in neutral on a very steep downhill driven by a thin five year old !!!

http://www.aicautosite.com/previews/2006-hummer-h3.asp

Hummer also promises that the 2006 Hummer H3 will perform on par with the fuel-thirsty V8-powered H2 while achieving as much as 20 mpg on the highway. ......

6. I suppose it's unfair to feel morally superior
to people based on the car they drive, yet every time I see on of these hideous monstrosities on the road I immediately form an opinion of the owner - republican, christian, bush loving, anti abortion, anti gay, anti immigrant asshole with a tiny dick.

The Hunmmer 2 is basically a top heavy boxy version of a Chevy Tahoe and because its built on a Tahoe frame it lacks the stability of the original Hummer against overturnig so in addition to being a gas hog it's inherently unsafe. I'd be very surprised if the Hummer even with the small V8 gets anywhere near 20 mpg.

17. You left out of your opinion: "with Racist tendencies."
And also Childish. When someone needs an object to feel power, they're probably also Childish and immature: emotionally, psychologically, physically, and sexually.

8. My Jeep Grand Cherokee averages 16mpg
The H2 is much bigger. There is no way in hell that the H2 is getting over 20mpg.

12. I don't know.
A 20' Grady White w/a 225hp outboard hardly counts as a yacht though. I wish I had a yacht. That'd be fucking awesome.

11. Just LOOK at them
Their size alone should tell the tale.. Bigger vehicles weigh more and use more fuel to propel them down the road :)

14. We definitely need "post-its" we can slap on these things
and other vehicles. The message should probably be on both sides, so people inside and outside the vehicle can read it.

Messages I'd pay for:

Low fuel efficiency finances Terrorism and kills American Troops.
One Hummer = X dead Americans.
Idling you engine for air-conditioning makes certain that your children and granchildren will have more health problems.
Big is Dumb.
. . . .

any suggestions?

18. I know we all drive cars, so all of us are guilty to some extent, but
CHOOSING to do the worst thing you can do in a bad situation IS qualitatively different morally.

20. That'd make a great "post it".
I'd just put USA on his chest.

I'm going to investigate "post-it" messages, find out what it'd cost to produce such a thing.

I'm tired of being upset everytime I see another Hummer and they ARE on the increase here in Cupcake Land.

23. Here's an idea:
Thank you for contributing to global warming and our continued dependence on foreign oil. If you want to drive a military vehicle, join the military.

That last one just popped into my head. It's sort of like what Wesley Clark said: if you like assault weapons, join the Army; we've got 'em.
