Would Hamas have won had Shrub allowed the weapons
inspectors to do their job, (complete the mission, ya know, stay the course) acknowledged the fact that Iraq was cutting up missiles (something the U.S. will never do) and kept Cheney out of the CIA headquarters??? I think not and he needs to dwell on this thought long and hard as does the rest of the world. He has stirred all this up, led to these political developments and the responsibility lies squarely in the hands of the Neocons and their puppets.

1. I don't know if Iraq would have made much difference, but...
...I doubt that Hamas would have won had not Bush given the green light to Sharon to stall indefinitely on the "road map" and use any and all means to fight the second intifada. While many see Sharon as the "warrior who turned to peace," it should be remembered that said "conversion" (if conversion it was) came pretty late in the game...and after the "warrior" had managed to pretty much destroy the Palestinian infrastructure and render its government totally ineffective.

Although those, like me, who hoped for a peaceful, two-state solution bitterly regret the results of yesterday's election, it is scarcely surprising that those Palestinians who attempted to take the path of Oslo, and found it led nowhere but to continued occupation and a worsening of their quality of life, should decide that the route of negotiation espoused by Fatah over the past dozen years took one to a dead end, and conclude that any alternative that promised an end to current conditions would be preferable. Unfortunate and (given the current conditions) short-sighted, but understandable.

2. Agreed.... I go off now and then and talk out of my backside... but
you know what really gets me... we speak of peace making, of good intentions, of making things better and then we invest hundreds of billions of dollars a year on technology designed to kill people in the most efficient manner obtainable. I'd bet world peace could be achievable if the combustion engine went away, diamond became worthless, gold was chucked into the bottom of the ocean, and so forth.... there I go again.
