Fox: Republicans Call For CNN Embeds Removed From Iraq
Edited on Sat Oct-21-06 04:42 PM by eleny
It's Anderson Cooper's 360 where they showed US soldiers being killed that's freaking them out.

Duncan Hunter on the phone with FoxNews saying that CNN is not part of an international observer group but are part of America where we are all supposed to be in on this together.

Truth hurts and they don't want it shown or talked about, I guess.

Marvin Kalb now saying that troops are being killed at an alarming rate and the parents of the troops have the right to know how it is. He asserted that CNN should do this to show the reality of the war to the American people. It's the decision of the administration to pursue this war and Americans have the right to know what's going on.

The segment has now ended but no doubt will be repeated.

2. Hunter sounded like he expected news agencies to be like Fox
To him being part of America must mean you have to be a cheering section for the war.

3. I saw it. I was shocked to see it on there but not shocked
about what has been going on. I'm a nurse so I've seen plenty of blood, guts and death so I wasn't as stunned seeing what I saw for those few minutes as some would be. I will be totally pissed if they kick them out just because the Rs want them out because of this. People need to know what our soldiers are going through on the battlefront. It's funny how the imbeds were front¢erstage when they were going in--quite a turn around, huh?

4. I saw the AC360 segment, too
It was hard to watch even though they blacked out the split second when a soldier was hit.

What strikes me is that even if the embeds were removed, insurgents could still get DVDs to CNN or any news organization. How do videos from Osama and others get on our news?

I wonder if they're using this event as an excuse to get CNN off the battlefields now that things have gone from bad to worse. Or maybe when the administration says they're changing strategy and lie about how well it's going - CNN won't be there to tell the truth.

8. Of course they don't want this seen. They want all their mistakes hidden.
Maybe there would be less cheer-leading for war if the consequences were shown, and the realities of everyone's actions were examined.

Governments are less likely to fall into corruption, and power has a harder time being concentrated when the press has open access. We have fallen into a reality that has been fixed by the republicans who would stay in power no matter what the cost to US citizens.

It would be nice if we could trust those in power to do their jobs and honor their oath of office but after almost 6 years of complete Republican control we have seen that their oath to our Constitution takes a back seat their quest for individual power and money.

9. With MSNBC moving toward changes in programming....
CNN is the only 24 hour news oganization beides FoxNews. So, it's going to be a major target for them.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. command in Baghdad is seeking bidders for a two-year, $20 million public relations contract that calls for monitoring the tone of Iraq news stories filed by U.S. and foreign media.

Proposals, due Sept. 6, ask companies to show how they'll "provide continuous monitoring and near-real time reporting of Iraqi, pan-Arabic, international, and U.S. media," according to the solicitation issued last week.

Contractors also will be evaluated on how they will provide analytical reports and customized briefings to the military, "including, but not limited to tone (positive, neutral, negative) and scope of media coverage."

The program comes during what has appeared to be a White House effort, before the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, to take the offensive against critics at a time of doubt about the future of Iraq.

7. CNN is showing it as we speak
I think they should show more of the realities of war. The Republics just don't want America to see what they have wrought.
