Federal judge, poppy Bush's cousin, kills police officer
Edited on Sat Oct-21-06 10:59 PM by survivor999
NEW HAVEN, Conn. --A popular city police officer died Saturday, four days after being struck by a sport utility vehicle driven by a federal judge who is a cousin of former President Bush, New Haven's mayor said.

Officer Dan Picagli, a 17-year veteran of the force, was hit while working an extra-duty job directing traffic in the rain Tuesday night in a dimly lit section of Chapel Street.

"Officer Picagli was more than a cop," New Haven Mayor John DeStefano said in a written statement Saturday. "He was someone who brought people together, who created a sense of community. He was a life enhancer to all with whom he came in contact. More than any memorial, his basic decency will keep his memory vibrant in our city."

Picagli was wearing a black rain coat and a reflective vest when he was struck.

The driver of the SUV that hit Picagli is John M. Walker Jr., a senior judge on the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York, who lives in Connecticut and maintains court chambers in New Haven. He was leaving work when the accident happened, police said.

"....but police did not feel it was necessary to test Walker for drugs or alcohol"

3. Looks like they are trying to make it "alcohol related".
Once again, the good ole "incompetence" dance.

They are never to blame for their actions.

Only everyone else.

Remember the Bush fans holding up their 3 fingers that represented W? That didn't spell B, now did it?

12. What is up with the stupid journalists?
When this event first happened they referred to the Judge as a cousin to the former President. By definition, he is also a cousin to the current President.

19. Walker didn't have to suffer
the humiliation of getting an alcohol test. How happy I am for him.:sarcasm:

When my son and his best friend were killed and 5 others injured in an auto accident EVERYONE had to be tested. Of course, none of these dead and injured had connections.

I didn't know it was possible for me to detest the Bush family any more than I already did, but this story and the NCLB shit just did it.

21. Wow. Good thing it wasn't a black man driving the car that hit him.
They would have given him the test and probably dropped drugs in the car just to get even.

22. At the very least
the judge should stand down from the bench altogether; lose his driver's license - and be tried on manslaughter charges. You know - the same things that an ordinary people would be subject to.

24. This just frosts my cookie!
Oct 3 2006, My husband coming home @ 1:10 from his job at the hospital is pulled over by a cop. Gives him a breath test ,he passes it. He arrests him and puts him in the cop car, and he and his buddy seach his car. They find his perscription drugs. They bring him in for two more breath tests and he passes, and then they use our volenteer emt.,engineer by day, to draw blood. I call the chief to find out about rights, and the chief says he has no rights.

25. Im sorry to hear this! What is going on? Please contact the ACLU and your
city council and your representatives.

Don't let this go. If they get away with such injustices towards citizens, they will continue to do this.

Please keep us posted as well.

29. I was passed by a Porsche 928 in a school zone.
The guy was doing about 50 in the 20mph school zone. The license plate read,"Texas State Judge".

Above the law is the phrase that comes to my mind.
