Coingate: Noe's wife is spilling the beans to Dems
Very, very interesting article in today's Toledo Blade about how Bernadette Noe has been meeting w/ Ohio Dem leaders to talk about the Ohio GOP who have abandoned her husband. She's being very cagey, but is making references to the GOP system of fundraising and is naming names of who may be connected to it, including George Voinovich and Betty Montgomery.

Must read article...

http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061022/NEWS09/610220346

"She either did not know, or she was being cryptic about what she knew," Mr. Rothenberg said last week. "She mostly talked about this tape. I got the feeling that she felt it was something like a holy grail."

Ms. Noe didn't provide a copy. She wanted to talk about something else.

"Ms. Noe began discussing in a candid way her disappointment in the Lucas County prosecutor's refusal to speak with Mr. Noe about a plea, indicating had knowledge of the fund-raising system" of the Republican Party, Mr. Rothenberg said.

1. I'd like her to spill how this fundraising
might be connected to stealing the 2004 election for Bush. Did some of this money pay off people to keep quiet?

2. I suspect that's what she's trying to do
use her knowledge of the GOP fundraising crime syndicate to leverage a plea bargain for her husband.

What I want to know is, why aren't the prosecutors asking Noe all these questions? The GOP and Bush WH is managing this trial from a distance. Perhaps they want to make Noe the fall guy and keep the rest of the crime syndicate in hiding.

5. We know the ballots were tampered with in Ohio

But who did the tampering?
I think money was used to keep people quiet, those guys need to be hunted down. Definitely some kind of mafia mob crime syndicate is involved.

3. Exactly! There is more to this than pay to play (which is bad enough)
The Noes played a role in diverting democracy through their roles with the Lucas County BOE. Even Blackwell had to publicly acknowledge the malfeasance that went on in Lucas, where Bernadette was Chair of the LC BOE in 2004:

includes the fact that REPUBLICAN VOLUNTEERS were allowed UNSUPERVISED ACCESS to UNSECURED BALLOTS prior to the election, as well as this list:

*failure to maintain ballot security
*Inability to implement and maintain a trackable system for voter ballot reconciliation .
*failure to prepare and develop a plan for the processing of the voluminous amount of voter registration forms received.
*issuance and acceptance of incorrect absentee ballot forms.
*manipulation of the process involving the 3% recount.
*disjointed implementation of the Directive regarding the removal of Nader and Camejo from the ballot .
*failure to properly issue hospital ballots in accordance with statutory requirements.
*failure to maintain the security of poll books during the official canvass
*failure to examine campaign finance reports in a timely manner.
*failure to guard and protect public documents ....etc.

-One-half of the ballots printed and used in the 2004 general election in Lucas county were stored in an open space on the fhird floor of the county warehouse with no security measures in place.
SOURCE: SOS Investigation on Lucas County BOE page 4

-Live ballots were delivered to polling locations a week in advance of the election. Although the ballots were retrieved, one board employee who was assigned to the warehouse informed the SOS staff that he did not believe all the ballots were successfully retrieved.
SOURCE; SOS Investigation, page 5

-Lucas County BOE failed to record or retrieve ballot stub numbers of absentee voters’ ballots as required by statute OH Revised Code 3505.23. It was reported by an elector that her mother had received not one, but three absentee voter ballots. there was no way to determine if similar incidents occurred and if so how many.
SOURCE: SOS Investigation, page 7

-October 4, 2004 was filing deadline for new voter registrations. At that point there were approximately 20,000 unprocessed voter registration applications with less than a month before the election. One mail tray containing 4,500-7,000 (estimates vary) unprocessed “Project Voter” registrations were discovered on or about October 18,2004.
SOURCE: SOS Investigation pg 10

***Of interest here is information obtained from the SOS website entitled ElectionsVoter/results 2003 and 2004 which show the # of registered voters number change from ‘03-’04 was 11,947 in Lucas County: reg voters 2003 in Lucas=288,190 ; registered voter in 2004=300,137.

-In late September or early October an employee of the Ohio Republican Party contacted Sam Thurber (*involved with politician wife Maggie Thurber in Noe scandal.) wanting to inspect and have copies made of all recently returned voter registrations, Ohio Republican Party offered to furnish volunteers to assist with copying postcards. No one at the Lucas County BOE can confirm that anyone was assigned to supervise Republican volunteers. On their second day of copying, a BOE employee, Jennifer Bernath, Democratic Booth Official) saw republican party volunteers peeling off the yellow return stickers applied by the post office. (Violation of RC 149.43 (B) (I) , and agruably a violation of 149.351.

-The Swanton 3 poll book turned up missing and has never been recovered.

10. She's playing innocent but:
Petro says Noe's spouse billed firm

By JOSHUA BOAK
BLADE STAFF WRITER

COLUMBUS — Records show that Bernadette Noe belonged to the state coin funds’ wives club, an unofficial cadre of spouses who found employment with the $50 million investment that their husbands managed for the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.

-snip

Mrs. Noe, a lawyer, has claimed in court papers that she never “engaged in a business relationship” with the coin funds.

But yesterday, Mr. Petro accused her in a court filing of billing one of the coin funds, and some of its subsidiaries, at least $2,946 for legal services.

13. They're being made they patsy by the GOP
Seems as though Bernadette and Tom don't like being made the scapegoats for what is a wide ranging, major GOP scandal. It has the potential to take down many, many people if the investigation widens.

14. Yeah...the GOP certainly uses it's operatives look at Katherine Harris.
Can't wait until Blackwell finds out-although * calling him "NUTS" should be a hint it's coming.

11. Bernadette is an opportunist looking for a quick buck:
Bernadette Restivo Noe, former chairman of the Lucas County Board of Elections and wife of Tom Noe, central figure in the growing Ohio Coingate scandal, 10 years ago sued Bowling Green State University for $9 million for sexual harassment. Today she is employed as an attorney by a law firm that advises businesses on protecting themselves from such cases.

While her husband Tom served on the Board of Trustees of Bowling Green State University (BGSU), Bernadette was employed as an assistant director of development for the university. She resigned from her position in February 1995 after filing a sexual harassment claim. The March 13, 1996, Cleveland Plain Dealer reported:

Noe contends she was sexually harassed by her former boss, Phil Mason, the vice president for university relations. She has accused him of greeting her with a hug and a kiss at work and making embarrassing comments toward her during a staff retreat in 1994.

March 1995 internal BGSU investigation concluded that no sexual harassment had occurred.

In September 1995 Governor George Voinovich appointed Tom Noe to the Ohio Board of Regents.

16. Voinovich's "Consigliere"
as V referred to Noe. Looks like the Ohio GOP isn't as lucky as Bush in "instilling loyalty".

Pretty amazing that she thinks the GOP can influence the prosecutor in her husband's case. Do you think she can get them to do it?
