Do you feel a big Democratic victory in the air?
Living in Cambridge, Massachusetts, it always feels good for the Democrats and since 1982 that feeling has been mostly wrong. For those of you living in more politically typical areas, do you feel change is really afoot? Do you get the impression that people are fed up with the Republicans? Or is your optimism, like mine, mostly based on the polls?

1. I do and the powderkeg could be Ohio...
if they try to steal the election. I have heard a lot of people are ready to take Blackwell to the mat down there he tries it again.

4. No, I feel an intense responsibility to help my local democratic chapter
get people to the polls November 7th!

That is, if we are to have a ghost of a chance to reclaim our democratic republic we best go vote IN LARGE NUMBERS come election day.

IMO First things FIRST!

6. I think we should step up the intensity and make it a big night on
Nov. 7th.

But yes, the trend is blue, and the bluer the better.

8. San Diego politics
I'm optimistic but rural San Diego just keeps sending crooks like Duncan Hunter, Brian Bilbray, & Darrel Issa back to congress again & again in spite of the scandals & smokescreens these guys put up. I've been a Democrat since I first registered back in 1960 and except for a brief fling with Peace & Freedom in the 1960's I've continued to be one. I've never missed a chance to vote. I wish I could say that about my fellow Democrats here in San Diego and around the country. I think we've got them this time. I hope we don't blow it because we're too lazy to vote.

10. Welcome to DU!
One of the best things about this site is that there are many. many posters who are amazing news reporters. I don't know if they're all journalists by profession but they get the breaking news posted faster and generally better than any other sources to which I have access. I've also met some great people at the meet ups I've attended - it's so nice to be able to speak your mind if you choose to and not worry about offending any R's who might be in the crowd. Coffee and DU - best way to start the day.

I am skeptical. I think it will be a small victory. I hope I will be wrong.

13. I wish I could be more optimistic
but I am worried about what Blackwell is up to in Ohio. These voter purges that have been reported sound a lot like 2004. Control of Congress could hinge on what can be done to contest these Rovian facist tactics being carried out by Rove's Ohio henchman Blackwell.

In my own state (Maine) it has been an uphill battle to get people to vote against our repiglican senator Olympia Snowe. She's not the moderate she tries to portray herself as and she is an enabler of shrub and company. However a lot of people who hate the regime just don't make the connection and the state (and national) party has not provided any real support to the Democratic candidate Jean Hay Bright. However, I have had hopeful encounters recently with people who do get it and who have told me that they and everyone in their family will be voting against Snow this time. So who knows? I'm a realist and can see that it's pretty likely that there will not be an upset, but even a significant dent in Snow's supposed support would be nice.

15. I believe that the Dems should take this easily, I also don't
Edited on Sun Oct-22-06 04:15 PM by walldude
underestimate the Bush administration. Bush is really convinced their lock on power is going to remain uncontested. He's acting like a school kid who has the answers to his final exams. That said, I also see that the press is slowly turning and I don't believe that they are just going to ignore any inconsistancies in voting results and exit polls again. I think if the repugs manage to hold all their power there are going to be some serious investigations into the election process.

edit for typos..

18. I am certainly hopeful
David Brooks was even giving it up to the Democrats, saying the Republicans have had their time, and now it is the Democrats time, plus scandals are popping up everywhere which is a sign that change is coming.

Also the idea that Georgie Bush the younger will save us from the terrorists has definitely fallen by the wayside.

HERE IS TO THE DEMOCRATIC VICTORY!!!!
