Moonie News Service Defending Foley ??? - Wha.......... ???
Foley Followed The Rules, Norms For Pages

<snip>

WASHINGTON, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Operating within acceptable boundaries allowed former ex-Rep. Mark Foley to pursue relationships with House pages during and after they left Washington.

Foley, the Florida Republican who resigned Sept. 29 after suggestive electronic messages to male congressional pages surfaced, was regarded as one of the friendliest congressmen, befriending many pages during their tenure, former pages told the Washington Post Sunday. His actions initially did not seem forward.

Former pages told the Post Foley's messages began innocently but became more suggestive to select pages as they neared completion the program or shortly after they graduated. No one could relate an instance in which Foley had sexual contact with a former page. Foley's attorney did not comment.

Other contributing factors included the ability for male pages to develop mentoring relationships with the male lawmakers more easily than female pages, the Post said.

rest of the SANE thinking world community. :thumbsdown: Foley was grooming "the good lookers" for sex when they reached 18 y.o. That fits the definition of predatory behavior to me. :(

4. LOL !!! - 'Surprised' May Be Too Strong A Word...
I wasn't surprised that they covered this stuff up in order to hold on to power, but for ANY news organization to now JUSTIFY Foley's actions, does require some word in the vicinity of 'shocked'... I guess...

:shrug:

3. But take a look at that last paragraph.
'...The page program has a "zero-tolerance" policy for those who broke its rules, the Post said. One page said the rules meant one thing for teens and another for adults. Pages could be sent home, but "(you) can't put a member on a plane and send him home," the page told the newspaper.'

This item might be pointing out that Foley 'kept within the rules' by not having actual sexual contact, BUT—it's also giving us this quote by the page we haven't seen before. I think the page is insinuating that the rules were stretched for the guys with the power. And that maybe they hesitated to complain too loudly because it would be they who would be sent home, not the powerful congressman. Their careers that would be zapped before they started. Interesting.
