Look, we all know there are two unchecked events in store for the American electorate that may sway public opinion this way or that way heading into November 7: The gay marriage decision in New Jersey, due by Oct 26th, and the Saddam Hussein verdict which will be read on November 5th (An obvious attempt to influence the Midterm elections that you won't see discussed on Fox News). But here's a problem that the GOP doesn't seem to understand.
Fred Barnes has already called the election for the Democrats unless something "monumental" changes the electorate's mind. He predicted 18 seats will be picked up by the Democrats on Fox News. Now, the GOP still hasn't spent most of its money in its ad blitz which will hit full intensity over the next two weeks. By the admission of even the most partisan of right-wing pundits, "If the election were held today, the Republican Party would lose control of the House and probably the Senate". So if early voting begins tomorrow, and as News agencies have reported, about 40% of the public plans to use early voting, does this basically seal the fate of the GOP? Because within a matter of days more than 25% of the electorate will already have cast their ballots. Isn't it too late for Karl Rove to pull some ridiculous stunt to try to save the electorate? Too late for Fox News to launch an all-out propaganda blitz for the GOP?
According to Rasmussen, Bush's approval has been ticking downward over the last week, up to 58% disapproval and 41% approval. Bearing in mind that Rasmussen's approval numbers are generally highly off because of the ambiguous way they prod the voters, and being that Rasmussen reported that 37% of the electorate calls itself "Democratic" and only 32% calls itself "Republican", as opposed to 38%-37% negligible lead Dems had in October of 2004, AND keeping in mind what pundits like Michael Barone and Dick Morris have said about Dems actually GAINING steam heading into the last two weeks because a lot of poor, working class Democrats finally start focusing on the elections and who they're going to vote for, isn't it likely that it's already too late for the GOP? Even too late for Karl Rove to try to pull some massive bullshit stunt?
I'd say yes. Get out and vote, carpool and get others to vote, take people to lunch and a movie if that's what it takes to get their lazy asses up and out to the voting stations, stop talking about diebold, and leave the Republican Party in ruins on election day.
It's domination time.
