Bush met yesterday with Alito's former law clerks - the ones who publicly support him - but, he gave no acknowledgment to the masses of opposition to Alito and the issues they raised in the hearings and elsewhere. That's as partisan as a president for all of the people can get.
At the meeting Bush
said the Senate should
"put partisanship aside and give Judge Alito the up or down vote he deserves and to confirm him as the next associate justice of the Supreme Court."But, we of course know that our objections to Alito come from specific facts of his past opinions, and from a judgment of his lack of candor when he appeared before the same committee to be confirmed for his present job.
Governor Dean, after examining the judge's record, succinctly outlined our objections to Alito:
Dean's list:Alito supports unchecked executive power.
Alito supports intrusive government power over individual liberties.
Alito failed to protect crucial Family Medical Leave protections.
Alito used legal technicalities to excuse gross sexual harassment.
Alito supported prosecutors who constructed all-white juries to try black defendants.
Alito broke his promise to the Senate to recuse himself from cases in which he had a clear conflict of interest.
Only a partisan like Bush, president for all of the American people, would gather all of his like-minded minions together and denounce everyone who disagrees with him for their supposed partisanship.
