For about six weeks we had a rash of appenders buying into Karl Rove's "Swift Boating" of the Red Cross (Washington Staff, local staff, volunteers) for all manner of evils - the Red Cross pocketed the money, the Red Cross didn't want to go because it was muddy, dirty, dusty, mosquito-laden, Elizabeth Dole stole the money, yaadaa yaadaa yaadaa.

The Red Cross is not a "free agent". The Red Cross has to be "invited in" by the local authority - and operates under the local emergency manager's command and control pursuant to an .

Not only was the Red Cross (and out-of-town Salvation Army and out-of-town Ham Radio operators) not "invited" in -- we were told to stay out!

BTW - I am not "some blogger" - I am a Red Cross Disaster Service Volunteer/Shelter Manager, a , a , a veteran of the United States Coast Guard - stationed in New orleans, and a former resident of New Orleans -- and my wife taught school in the Lower Ninth Ward.
