Parkinson Foundation Debunks Limbaugh’s False Smears on Michael J. Fox

According to the National Parkinson’s Foundation, Limbaugh has no idea what he’s talking about. The Washington Post reports:

In an interview in Ladies Home Journal’s September edition, Fox said he was taking a medication that causes jerking, fidgeting and other abnormal involuntary movements, known as dyskinesia. Fox said he was taking another medication to lessen those side affects.

An official of the National Parkinson Foundation said movements like those exhibited by Fox are the result of taking medication to treat the disease, which would otherwise result in rigidity.

“When you see someone with those movements, it’s not because they have not taken medication but because they probably have taken medication for some time,” the official said. “If you don’t take the medication, then you freeze.”

Limbaugh continued the assault today, calling Fox’s video “an attack ad” that is “filled with disinformation about embryonic stem cell research.”

Rush Limbaugh speaks on a good many subjects about which he knows nothing. He just has to make the subject fit his neat little world view in order to make sense to the choir to whom he preaches daily. Mr. Limbaugh creates a complex alternate universe with that technique. He missed his calling. He might have been a good science fiction writer.

Anyway, the results of this technique can be pretty bizarre. An Afro-American quarterback has a bad week and suddendly he's only in the NFL because there must be some affirmative action program for pro football quarterbacks. A shark attack off Florida is because sharks are looking for food (never mind that in the real world sharks don't like the way humans taste) and that we shouldn't have enviromental regualtions protecting sharks. And a celebrity with a debilitating disease must be exaggerating when he pleads with the public to vote for a candidate who supports stem cell research because, in Rush's alternate universe, stem cell research is immoral.

It's simple. In this alternate universe, a right wing moron with a microphone in front of his face knows more about Parkinson's Disease than any doctor, more about the feeding habits of sharks than any marine biologists and more about affirmative action programs for pro football quaterbacks than -- wait a minute, who would be an expert on affirmative action programs for pro football quarterbacks, anyway? All any one has to do to deduce facts on such diverse topics is consult Robert Welch's Blue Book or the political speeches of Ronald Reagan or a Jerry Falwell sermon or wherever else Rush Limbaugh gets his ideas.

A man who talks with authority on a subject on which he has no expertise is a fool. Rush Limbaugh is a fool just about every time he opens his mouth.

It is called Amantadine. I'm sure many have had it.
I took it because I had a severe flu and I was very sensitive to it.
I had a dyskinesia that is a major side effect to the drug.
I didn't realize what was causing this--I thought it was more flu symptoms, but I couldn't stop moving. Luckily my physician recognized it and had me stop the drug.
