They want a groundswell? Call friends and family about Alito!
From rawstory:
"One aide said part of the problem is that Democratic senators haven’t felt a groundswell of opposition from constituents. Polls show that Alito’s nomination is supported by most Americans."

I just called my sister in another state and she had no idea about Alito. I figure some of you are already doing this, but we need more of us call friends and family and tell them about Alito, and ask them to call their senators to filibuster! Then ask them to spread the word to their friends and family!

Maybe refer them to the NYT editorial that just came out?

Especially helpful if you know anybody in the states with the 8 Senators holding out on the filibuster (this link also has the toll-free Capitol switchboard numbers):

I know you have people that you can call that may not agree with you on some things, like Roe v. Wade, but even if you stay away from that, there is plenty more reason to filibuster against Alito:

- Alito espouses the "unitary executive theory" which will lead to the President being more like a dictator or king.

- Alito helped pervert the "signing statement" into the abomination recently used by Bush* to reserve the power to waive restrictions on torture (McCain bill - sorry, don't have a link).

If anybody has had any success convincing their friends & relatives to call their senators or has any other quick Alito facts that would be useful in building this groundswell, post here, please!

Thanks!

3. Unscientific Randi Rhodes Poll
Disclaimer: I have no idea how many people were polled and I have stated this is unscientific. Still, I found it interesting.

POLL: What is your biggest concern about Sam Alito?

Abortion/Roe v Wade 6%

Corporate sympathy over workers/individuals 14%

Expansion of presidential powers 50%

GW Bush picked him 30%

I thought this was fascinating -- the numbers for Abortion vs. the numbers for Expansion of presidential powers.

It's not just about abortion! (that's what I keep yelling at my TV)

4. Oh yeah, that reminds me
I forgot one point in my original post:

- Alito's record shows him to favor the corporation/gov't at the expense of the constitutional rights of the individual citizen.
