The "October Surprise" is everyone here freaking out about the October surprise
Edited on Tue Oct-24-06 09:52 PM by Orrex
Holy moley. Can we go ten minutes without an absolutely certain declaration about Rover's nefarious machinations? Please?!

It seems clear to me that no "surprise" is necessary beyond "we own Diebold," and really what more do they need to clinch the election?

Look, no one wants these enabling assholes tossed out of power more than I do (I mean, I'm from Pennsylvania, after all), but all of this jumping at shadows isn't very helpful. We can discuss the relative current importance of Obama or Clinton all we want, but let's not blow it up into a coordinated plot.

At least not for another ten minutes...

2. I was just about to post that same topic myself.
That's exactly what I was thinking.

3. The "October Surprise" is Millions of Dems Kicked off the Voting Rolls
Actually more of a "November Surprise", since most won't find out about it until they try to vote.

5. That happened to my dad's girlfriend today. She thought she was
registered in FL (they BOTH went last year to do so), but was told it wasn't happening this year UNLESS there's an 'issue', then she might be able to vote. :wtf: She's 80 years old and has her drivers license in NC, so w/o paperwork, she's not voting. Dad got to vote.

4. Seriously can't something be done about Diebold
It is an obvious conflict of interest, if they give $$$ to the repubs, for them to work on elections.

States need to make laws or something.

7. You Hit On The Only Answer That Will Work .... The $$$$$
We have to have a full and complete financial disclosure of the $$$$ passing in both directions to get to the root of the evil Diebold is engaged in, and who is assisting them in carrying out their nefarious duties.

Nothing else will stop them, and nothing else will expose those behind the scheme they are carrying out.

It is just like drug importation --catching the lower level actors that load and unload the drugs is not difficult, but it will never make a dent in the flow of drugs as long as the financiers and directors of the operation are never exposed and punished.

Cut the flow of money $$$$$ and Diebold will implode on its own.

If there is one thing Republicans, and their supporters, hate, it is not making money or losing money. Just like organized crime, they ain't in it if there is no money to be made in it....

8. Something that vexes me about this Diebold debacle
Over and over they've cried "proprietary software" and claimed the privilege of secrecy, necessary to maintain their trade secrets and blah blah blah.

Well, it seems to me that when you're nominally serving in the public arena in this fashion, you should be required to be completely transparent about it, both in terms of who's paying your bills and how your software works. I mean, why does corporate secrecy trump national democracy?

Oh wait, that's a silly question...

6. The "Suprise" is that here at DU
some of us smoke.

And try to adopt children from Africa.

I assume we can't wait for "Borat" to come out next week.

Another "Suprise" is that we can juggle many issues and entertainment at the same time.
