6. The real cowardice...
...is that so few of those who are unwilling to filibuster will come out and say so. Obviously, they fear the reaction of their constituents, but not as much as they fear the Republicans.

I called my senator, Wyden, and his phone-answering guy waffled about "leaving all options open." I thanked him for his vagueness.

7. I think the other Dems should challenge them to be public!
The other Dems that have been wanitng to fillibuster, and who will pay the price (perhaps unfairly) when the Dem constituency takes its wrath out on the party later, should challenge these bums to be public about their "no-fillibuster" stance. If they feel that a fillibuster is so damaging to "what the people want", then they shouldn't be afraid of being public about it, if it is SO MUCH in the interest of the American people's wishes. If what they are rationalizing as the reasons for not fillibustering are true, then they should be the ones that get re-elected and not the other Dems if they "go public". They KNOW that they are BS'ing the other Dems when they say that this is a distraction from other business or that the American public (or at least their constituency) doesn't want a fillibuster. They KNOW that they are OWNED by the DLC and its special interests and THAT is why they don't want a fillibuster.

By being exposed, that is what will turn off the voters to them. FORCE them to make that choice other Dems. You may feel that it makes the Democratic Party weak by showing this division. But I think it shows the many of you that want to fillibuster that much stronger, as you will come forward and take a stand that you want to fillibuster, even if it doesn't happen!

As far as my actions after this happens, here is what I feel we should do:

1) No fillibuster, and no word on who the "non-fillibusters" are?
Action: NO MONEY at all to the Democratic Party next year, just to other organizations that will tell them what they must do to get our money.

2) No fillibuster, and the non-fillibusterers are exposed?
Action: a $1-$10 donation to each of the congress critters that stood up and said they would fillibuster. Push other donations to other organizations that will tell them what they must do to get our money.

3) Fillibuster happens but fails
Action: a $10 donation to all of the congress critters that kept going with the fillibuster and continued to vote for cloture up to the end. Will donate money to Democratic Party on warranted occasions.

4) Fillibuster happens and Alito gets pushed out
Action: a $100 donation to each of the congress critters that kept the fillibuster going! Will donate money to Democratic Party on warranted occasions.

Make it a money proposition! If enough of us did this, that would be a big incentive for them to keep going!

11. We need to let them know..
.. we will finance other to run against them in the primaries if they fold. I have $100 for anybody (Dem or Indy) running against any Dem that will not fillibuster.

12. If I wanted to send a message to the leader of the Democratic party
who would that be - Dean? Reid?

I am a die-hard democrat. But I am disgusted in what I am seeing.
I am so angry that the dems did not come out with a stronger punch
in committee, and now on the senate floor. Yes, there were some
great speeches...but not enough unity. If they couldn't fillibuster due to lack of votes,
I still expect a stronger case than what is on front of me on cspan.

I am beginning to wonder if the democratic party speaks for me.
I am 49, and I have never once had those thoughts until today.
