Republican campaigning for Democrat in Texas
This is interesting.

Last week, State Sen. Bob Deuell, Hopkins County's representative in the Texas Legislature's upper house, did something that wasn't unexpected — he came to Sulphur Springs to endorse fellow Republican Kirby Hollingsworth of Mount Vernon, candidate for District 3 State Representative.
On Wednesday, Hollingsworth's opponent in the Nov. 7 election, incumbent Democrat Mark Homer, will get support from an unexpected source — former Lt. Gov. and State Sen. Bill Ratliff, who always ran on the GOP ticket.

Ratliff, a Mount Pleasant Republican, was elected lieutenant governor by his fellow state senators in December of 2000 to fill the seat of Rick Perry, who took over the governor's post when George W. Bush was elected president. Ratliff was a highly respected legislator. He was nicknamed “Obi Wan Kenobi” for his skills as a sage adviser, and was named five times as one of the state's 10 best legislators by Texas Monthly magazine.
Ratliff entered the race for election as lieutenant governor in 2002 but subsequently withdrew. He continued to serve in the state senate until announcing his retirement in 2004.

1. It must be asked: Is Homer Lieberman-lite? (nt)

2. I like Mark Homer
He is a good guy.
He is a little more conservative than I am, but he is good for our area.
Not Lieberman-lite but is very well liked by Republicans and Democrats alike.

4. Ratliff was always pretty independent
He was a principled R and was never on the W bandwagon. His endorsement is more about what he sees as right and should not be used to question Homer's bona fides as a Dem.

I know very little about Texas politics or Bill Ratliff.
