Sirius Satellite Radio is FREE for two days!
I highly recommend using the Oct. 25 & 26 free trial. Whether it's Howard Stern or Sirius Left, or tons of music, it's the bomb.
I am not a paid for shill, just a happy customer.

4. Listen online
Edited on Wed Oct-25-06 12:30 PM by Opusnone
It's pretty crowded and the signal might need to buffer more often than not, but check it out if you've never used it.
I swear by it, and haven't listened to terrestrial radio in a year!

9. No. Sirius is streaming for two days as apromotional.
I have Sirius and love it. Many different stations for many different musical and talk show tastes. The Blues station is unbeleivable! Where else can yo hear Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Buddy Guy and Robert Johnson? There's also a "Wiseguy" show where these old mobsters get on air and talk about the old days. Interesting stuff.
And although it may not be popular here on DU,I love Howard Stern.

7. I had Sirius at first, but two HOURS after I activated my radio...
...XM announced their exclusivity agreement w/ AAR, so I switched to XM. That said, Sirius has a superior signal (I rarely lost my Sisius signal, while I lose my XM signal regularly).

8. Dump XM, get serious
Siriusly.
Sirius Left is a great channel, and you can pick up whatever is left of AAR online or on AM.

...driving through the Adirondacks, so I don't have access to internet or AAR on the radio.

28. We have found XM far superior in signal to Sirius,
We have it at home, with the antenna sitting in the window. For Sirius we had to buy a mounted outdoor antenna. For XM the little antenna sitting in the window is perfect.

We have never lost signal with XM.

29. I never lose it at home, either...
...but in the car, I lose it more frequently than I did with Sirius.

The other thing that bugs me about XM is that they have two "right" channels, but only one "left" channel. But I dig Fred.;)

32. that may be changing sooner than you think...
.. and I'm curious about why you lose signal in your car? How do you have your antenna mounted? Have you checked the signal strengths to make sure you have both sats (possible bad antenna cable)???

35. It's mounted on the apex of my roof, and only 3 ft away from my ant...
Generally, it happens when I'm driving in the mountains or around tall trees, and in both of my cars.

37. Hmm....
I'm assuming it's a magnetic mount? If so it needs to be a little more toward the middle of the roof (give it at least 8" all the way around) to give it a good ground plane. Also, check the antenna aiming screen and make sure you're getting both birds.

30. That's because the Sirius sats are in constant MOTION...
.. while the XM sats are stationary. The roaming of the Sirius sats is also what causes people to get drop out from 20min to over an hour while the 'viewing angle' sometimes goes pear shaped and you can't see one at all..

is going under bridges, tunnels, etc. Never had a crapout longer than a few seconds.
Other than that, it's great.

They now have a completely portable unit you can take anywhere called the Stiletto (sp?)

Looks like right-wing commercial ideas without commercials. There are other ways to sell ideas than with "commercials'.

14. Let me try to explain:
It started out as
Left - Right - Patriot,
now it's
Left - Fox Talk - Patriot

Before you go off, understand that Patriot is for pseudo macho, military-types. Not necessarily right-wing conservative like Fox tends to be.

Granted, the hosts (Mike Church, Liddy, etc.) think they are "hard" guys, but it is easier to get through to some of the shows and much more fun to throw talking points at them.

Having Stern on the network more than balances out the right wingers and libertarians with FREE speech.

11. Looks like the same old crap to me.
Stern, Sports, Playboy, & Martha Stewart (as if that is what women want to hear).

I don't see anything progressive there.

Some people might be interested in this: http://www.greenstoneradio.com/GSM/ and/or http://www.kpfa.org/

There is your progressive online radio. And you can get it anytime - not just these 2 days.

33. I don't listen to commercial radio.
I have a progressive community radio station - that knows what progressive means. Politically and other ways.

You can listen to it, too. http://wfhb.org/listen.shtml

Of course - part of the programming is geared toward the community. That is part of the progressive concept - reclaiming our local connections.

Sirius does the opposite. Sirius seems to broadcast much of the same crappy ideas as most other mainstream media. Maybe there is some progressive stuff if you really look for it. Stern does not strike me as a progressive. Seems he would say he is a libertarian.

24. so you still use the antenna for your 13 TV channels?
You still get up and turn a dial to change the channel?

It's called progress. It's called an improvement. I pay for a better experience and I will never go back. There is so much variety to choose from you are never bored. The music channels are worth the cost alone. Imagine a commercial-free life listening to channels devoted to exactly what you love? And with such variety. Free radio isn't free- you are trapped listening to the commericals you pay with your time. Then when they do play music it's off a very basic list of songs they play. I'm getting to know musicians now that I never knew before. Artists that I liked before I love now because I hear more of their work.

31. Alt Nation RAWKS! I used to live in
Star Valley, Wyoming, for a time and believe me...you MUST have XM or Sirius there because there is no commercial radio reception worth listening to except what you could get from over the mountains and static-y from out of Idaho Falls.

I had XM and I absolutely loved it and had no qualms whatsoever paying the monthly subscription fee. Unfortunately, I must currently live as lean as possible and so I've forgone the satellite radio for now.

38. The Vault is where it's at!
I never tire of hearing all of the long songs from records that they normally, never ever play on testicle radio (couldn't resist ;) ) The Doors "The End" live? Or jamming on JAM ON with Dave Matthews? Priceless! They even had a Springsteen channel, 24 x7 Bruce for about 6 months with a different concert every night. Now it's The Who.

So much music you always find something that you love that you skip past stuff you merely like. Never going back!

34. I used to think the same way
but I love my Sirius satellite radio now. I love the fact that I can choose what I want to listen to, instead of suits at Clear Channel. There isn't much variety in my local radio stations (& no talk shows at all), so it's satellite for me & I've never looked back!

18. Damn Straight! Check it out people
I've had it for a few years and it is like the difference between black and white TV and HDTV. Cable vs 13 channels.

It is so worth the price. Once you know the difference you will never want to hear terrestial radio again.

:applause:
