Knocking on RW doors . . . . And learning a few things about them:
When a Pro-Lifer asked me something my Pro-Choice candidate and what I'd do if . . . I made it clear that I personally am just very curious how anti-Abortion + Pro-War works together for a person.

She said "You know Revelations says the War in Iraq will go on forever, don't you?"

Well, of course, I knew there are End-Timers and they explain everything as proving Revelations is real, but I guess I didn't know that Revelations says that this particular struggle will last forever. I thought it says that there'd be a struggle, Armageddon, followed by a long period of relative quiet (if not peace).

What gives with this?

2. That's just not even true - even for a whacko fundie.
The Bible clearly says all life on earth would end but for Jesus' returning to the Mount of Olives. It does NOT say the battle of armageddon will go on forever. I can't imagine where that nutball got that.

3. I can't imagine how anyone takes religious texts seriously
Edited on Wed Oct-25-06 12:34 PM by noahmijo
It's MYTHOLOGY people you know fun stuff, kid stuff, MAKE BELIEVE. It's just beyond me how people can scoff at the belief in Santa Clause on one hand but take seriously a story of a talking snake tempting a woman to eat "forbidden" fruit.

8. I am a very rational person. I love Science.
But I believe there are things that Science has nothing to say about. Religion doesn't necessarily do a very good job of being about those things either.

The Bible may or may not be about phenomena of that order, but I think, if anything in it IS true, it would have to be true the same way Poetry can be True.

14. My problem with religion is when it is used as a substitute for fact
Use it as a means of spiritual guidance, sure that's what it was meant for that's how it should be used. But when you start using it to justify reality and in turn having it lead to being implemented as some sort of moral code that everyone must follow that's where the line must be drawn.

Over 2000 years later and the line continues to be invisible.

They're the ones who killed God.

18. Some do read it, but . . .
their ideas about God and right and wrong and misconceptions about interpretation just get so balled up that they can't make heads or tails of the Bible unless someone teaches them - so they end up believing anything the pastor says.

6. "Jesus' returning to the Mount of Olives" . . . . ?
To be killed again - by those who choose to do so?

Or -

Not to be killed again - by those who refuse to do so?

What happens if both of these things happen?

Will/is his Second Coming be as just one person, or a single entity?

If the Bible makes any sense at all, Jesus never left Earth. He's always been here and we have always been killing him.

17. Actually, they believe he comes back . . .
and when he sets foot on the Mount, this big earthquake happens and splits the Mount in two. Then he basically kills everyone who doesn't believe in him.

Yay God!

5. you can read almost anything into that stuff........
...I'm talking about Revelations. People usually read a wide variety of topics into the scriptures, that doesn't mean that's what the writer originally meant, it's just what they want it to mean.

7. I've wrote people like that off
as lost, unsalvageable, and a total waste of time. I don't care who they are family members not excluded. The scriptures also say that if people don't want to hear then shake the dust off your shoes and move on, which I happily do.

10. re: pro life. Here's what you say...
"If you really and truly want to reduce abortions then you must vote for democrats - we are the party that funds access to birth control and funds education. We are the party that really wants to reduce abortions by taking practical measures like keeping unwanted pregnancies from happening in the first place. If you do not support funding these things then you, personally, have a hand in causing more abortions. May God have mercy on your soul."

15. You're welcome. The emphasis should be on the fact that
politicians who say they are pro-life means nothing unless they back that up with action...and the righties don't. Instead they do the counterintuitive thing and cut back funding to the one practicable thing that actually helps reduce abortions - cut off the funding for birth control. The most effective thing though is putting the responsibilty directly on the shoulders of these pro-life voters. "you vote for these people so you are part of the problem". No more fancy footing around it...

24. And don't forget....
The number one reason, far and ahead of any other, that women opt to have abortions is financial concerns. Voting for Republicans is voting to favor the rich over the poor and cut the social services that would allow a woman to "choose life".

The next thing to happen is a ruler coming out of the EU that will create a 7 year pact of peace in the ME which will be broken after 42 months. Then all world military forces gather at Armageddon. When this happens then Jesus returns, stops Armageddon and we live in a 1000 years of peace.

Not sure if I believe that there is an Antichrist but if there is one - it's Bush or somebody that he is working for.

"The peacemakers. The text says that they will be called the children of God."

The Beatitudes : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatitudes#Content

Beatitudes
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Many need to go back and read
