BREAKING: GOP FLA GOV CANDIDATE CRIST ALLEGEDLY HAD SEX WITH GOP STAFFER

Crist Denies Trysts
GOP frontrunner: I have never had sex with a man
By Bob Norman

A young rising star in the Republican Party has boasted to witnesses of his sexual relationship with Charlie Crist, the frontrunner in the Florida governor's race who has repeatedly denied that he is gay.

The GOP staffer, 21-year-old Jason Wetherington, told friends at separate social functions in August that he had sex with Crist, according to two credible and independent sources who heard Wetherington make the claim first-hand.

Wetherington, who recently worked as a field director for U.S. Senate candidate Katherine Harris and currently works for state representative Ellyn Bodganoff's reelection campaign, also named a man whom he said is Crist's long-term partner, a convicted thief named Bruce Carlton Jordan who also recently worked for Harris in her long-shot Senate bid.

Jordan made headlines recently when the Miami Herald learned that the felon was working as Harris's travel aide. The newspaper noted that Jordan, 42, was reported to be close friends with Charlie Crist, whom he convinced to attend an annual Florida Funeral Directors Association meeting in 2003.

It sounds to me this guy is legal to do it. Why are we going after him if there is no question as to the legality of it? Isn't that going a little to far(ie. lewinsky and clinton)?

98. Right. Also, as far as I'm concerned, even his implicit endorsement
through his silence on the issue, of the GOP's anti-gay position would legitimize the outing. If he were a private person it would be nobody's business. But he's not.

Crist is a LIAR- that's the story here. So,
NO, this is not 'going too far'.

Unless you feel the plain, honest TRUTH is "too far".

48. and I'm sure you were first on Clinton's back
when he lied about Monica.

It's nobody's business who he sleeps with. If he champions anti-gay legislation, then sure, the hypocrisy is fair game.

I don't immediately think any gay who is republican (even closeted) is immediately a self-loathing idiot, so there's no reason to call for his head if he's lying about being gay.

If someone can show me where he's championed anti-gay causes, then sure. But don't pound your chest about outing a sexual liar unless you can be consistent (or are you holding gays to a different standard?)

54. Are you kidding? Gay-baiting is the GOP No. 2 wedge/poll issue.
Aside from the vote tampering, the GOP brought alot of voters to the polls by putting an anti-gay marriage amendment on the local ballot.

Gay baiting is endemic to the current administration, and anyone who runs as a republican, who doesn't loudly state otherwise, is part of that bigotry.

They can't be republicans and remain hidden. It's not an option.

101. The poster your are responding to also urged people
to give Rush Limbaugh the benefit of the doubt in the Michael J. Fox issue a few days ago. I'll be shocked if this poster (named after a goddamned Ayn Rand character) sticks around to 1000 posts.

The point is that people who engage in homosexual activities in a political party that wants to criminalize such acts should have to address the conflict. What does the state party platform say on the issue, Mr. Crist? I'd expect the same from a black person that belongs to the KKK.

Caught LYING.

So I suppose you might say, "But why was he asked if he ever had sex with a man"... and I don't KNOW if he was asked that at all. The point is, HE voluntarily made a declarative statement that he had never had sex with a man. IOW, HE put his OWN business in the street.

116. Believe me I visit freepville often with my hazmat suit on of course,
but there is a definite pattern (can spot them a mile away and no, not by the dearth of posts).

If they don't like the subject because it's the TRUTH and it hurts:

Blame the media, having a hard time lately with NewsMax and Wash Journal etc.
Make a joke, place a funny graphic or derail the post when they are really desperate.
When there is dirt on them and they got caught, they go back a zillion years to cite a Dem, mainly Ted Kennedy.
There are not links to support what they post.
Never say "gay" - it's always homosexual, of course, unless it's Foley, then they try to be nice.
Poor spelling.
When troops have died..it's pray, pray, pray or hey, it's war!
When polls are bad, "who believes polls?" Unless it's a good poll, then they run with it.
Oh, and if there is a true, verified negative story on repubs, they don't even enter it.

Oh man, there are so many!

There are not many women on that site. I would say 98% neo-cons. No repubs, neo-cons.

BTW, can't wait to check out their site when the tsunami hits. Be prepared, tere will be a zillion DELETED posts on DU. LOL!

9. He is opposed to gay marriage but supports civil unions
On the subject of a proposed Constitutional ban on gay marriages, Gallagher accused Crist of flip-flopping on the issue by first saying a ban wasn’t needed and then signing a petition in support.

Crist, who also has said he does not oppose gay civil unions, said: “I guess I have a little bit more of a live-and-let-live attitude than my opponent does.”

Graham and former Senator and then Governor Walkin' Lawton Chiles, both men of integrity who were good for Florida and the US of A.

Florida has has a huge influx of people in the last thirty years, most of whom have come here to live in the last fifteen years. We gain something in the neighborhood of 1,000 new residents a day.

Unfortunately, this influx is ruining the state, both in a political sense and environmentally. What was once a wild and natural place area of incredible beauty is now just another humongous urban and suburban development.

that keep showing up? Gay Republicans don't make any sense in the current climate, so much of their platform has been anti-gay and socially un-progressive. I think there must be some kind of gay sub culture running through the party because someone at the top is gay, someone like George W or Rove.

are gay. The National Enquirer was going to publish pictures of Bush with his boyfriend, Victor Ashe, but unfortunately THAT was when the anthrax made its way to the National Enquirer offices in FL.

I had this little tidbit saved. I don't remember where I got it though:

First of all, these rumors were all over Austin during dubnership of America's only living testimonial to brainless living. Karl R is reputed to have a thing for hulking hairy guys in leather with whips as did Scotty Mac. Governor Goodhair, George's successor, was reportedly caught en flagrante by his quickly ex-wife, Anita, and that was confirmed anonymously on blogs frequented by politico aides. They said that they were asked to say that Gov Goodhair was caught with a gal.

There was a story on George W.'s gay boyfriend at Yale in the Dallas Morning News and Marge Schoendening, the now-deceased woman, who accused Bush of rape had dated him in high school and she was black. There should be a clear theme here, George likes both types of fruit from the forbidden tree. ;-)

on edit: Victor Ashe was his boyfriend when he attended Yale.:)

53. If you are gay among the gay haters, you are powerful.
Yes, it sounds absurd, but it's also true.

To be trusted among dishonest people, the dishonest people must first have something on the person who seeks trust. We might call it blackmail; they might call it initiation.

It works exactly the same way with gang members and intelligence operatives.

61. Whew, that was...surreal
FR has some seriously whacked out kids on one side and repressed adults on the other. For your reading pleasure, here's a few choice posts from FR...

"I know Charlie Crist. He's very nice, very tough on crime. However, I'm certain he is gay (though he denies it publicly) and will push for gay unions, if not gay marriage rights. He is also pro-amnesty. If I had another choice, I wouldn't vote for him, but I don't. He is the ultimate POLITICIAN, if you know what I mean (NOT a compliment). But again, a very nice person."

"I have a connection to Charlie Crist though I don't know him personally. Even if he is gay it doesn't mean he'll be for gay unions. I know fellow republicans who are gay; they're not for gay marriage or gay unions. I'm voting for Crist. I think he'll make a fine governor."

"The Democrats know the truth, for the Gay community is the flip side of their coin. They know places, names and dates. Do you think for a moment that they will not out him after the primary?
Are you really willing to risk the Governorship on a Crist whopper? This swirling rumor aside, do you support how chain gang Charlie handled the death at the juvenile detention facility? We have the perpetrators on video tape, yet after all these months, we have no indictments. What do you want? Another race riot?"

60. If Crist drops out, Florida will NOT HAVE A GOVERNOR!
I mean it! There are RUMORS that there was a Democratic candidate, but the only ads on the air have been for "Jesus" Crist. And there are rumors that someone claiming to be a Democratic candidate was advertising only in South Florida, not as far north as Orlando, but his ads only talked about some nonsense about SAT's or something non-vital.

If Crist drops out, that means that no one will be elected Governor. I guess then Florida breaks down into a series of Republican fiefdoms.

Seriously, if Smith, the rumored Democratic candidate, doesn't even care to talk about important issues or even campaign minimally in half the state, he isn't going to be a governor. He'll be as ineffective as the Governor of Texas, a tool of the state legislature.

80. Really? How did you know his name? Are you related?
Because I sure as hell haven't seen any ads, TV or print or yard signs, here in Orlando. And that's precisely the point. He is an unknown quantity, and hasn't worked to make himself known. I will vote for him because he is NOT REPUBLICAN. That isn't enough motivation or reason for most voters, though. He and the Florida Democratic Party didn't do their job.

Jim Davis for Governor
http://www.jimdavis2006.com/

And Davis is gaining in the polls.

Analysts say Davis gains momentum amid anti-GOP backlash
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/florida/sfl-felxgov25oct25,0,357911.story?coll=sfla-news-florida

TALLAHASSEE· After a slow start, Jim Davis is getting the Democratic base fired up and Charlie Crist is hampered by a national anti-Republican surge. That combination means the Florida governor's race is becoming a tight contest in the final stretch.

Political analysts from both parties say the past three weeks have been among the best for Davis since he began his run for governor more than a year ago.

. . .

Tightening poll numbers and having a presence on TV make a big difference in a late Democratic push to raise money, said Mitchell Berger, the Fort Lauderdale lawyer who heads Davis' fundraising efforts.

"When you see momentum on your side of the race, people return your calls," Berger said. "And that's what's happening now. We've come from 21 points behind to a statistically dead-even race."

79. Gee, an Internet ad. SO WHAT?
An Internet ad is intended for someone just like you, Synnical - someone who goes on the Internet specifically looking for Democratic ads. That isn't advertising, it's preaching to the choir.

Whoever the hell the Democratic candidate for Florida governor is - Smith, Davis, Pepe Le Pew - that candidate has to talk to EVERYBODY. That means TV ads throughout the entire state, and ads that will make the voters want to vote for him.

If he doesn't have the money for ads everywhere, he can do other things. Something outrageous, like jumping on this supposed thing about Crist being gay (which hasn't been proven) might get him some attention. He could scream about his hypocracy and sleaziness, and the papers would have to report on the attacks. Than I, and other people, MIGHT remember his name and MIGHT vote for him.

As it is, Whoever-He-Is is being drowned in all the "Jesus" Crist ads.

70. Crist Is NOT Gay - And other things the Republican Party wants you to belie...

Broward/Palm Beach New Times article, xpost from the Florida Forum

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=145&topic_id=8209&mesg_id=8209

http://www.newtimesbpb.com/Issues/2006-10-19/news/feature.html

We hear that Charlie Crist is gay.

There's no proof that he is. In fact, Crist, the Republican candidate for governor and the current state attorney general, has repeatedly denied it.

But professional muckrakers have burned fistfuls of campaign money trying to prove it. His political opponents have tried to score points by alluding to it. And it seems that everyone who follows politics in Florida discusses it more or less openly. The rumors have multiplied and overgrown his political career like kudzu, and though they haven't slowed Charlie Crist's rise to power, they have shaped it every step of the way.

. . .

For several weeks, for example, a man who has known Crist for 25 years and for much of that time worked with him in the Republican Party has been saying publicly that Crist is not a heterosexual.

Max Linn, the Reform Party candidate for governor, says that in both 1984 and 1998, he and Crist discussed Crist's sexual orientation. (Linn says Crist is bisexual.)

. . .

"Why don't you guys ever write that Charlie Crist is gay?" New Times recently asked an elevator full of political reporters covering the governor's race. After a short silence, they all breathed a collective sigh.

"Do you have any proof?" one of them asked, clearly not for the first time.

Nope.

"There you go," she said.

"We've been dealing with that rumor for years," another reporter explained. "It's still unsubstantiated."

And so it goes. The reporters head back to their newsrooms, and there won't be anything about the whispers in your morning newspaper the next day.

are there MORE gay Repubs than gay Dems?

I've never cared what/who anybody was fucking, but I've just never believed anybody who was gay could be a Repub. It just doesn't make sense. The R's generally hate gays so much.

Is there some element of self-punishment and/or self loathing here? "I hate myself for being gay, so I'll identify with the gay hating Repubs?"

he was on the Guy James show and outed Crist..and also on an Orlando radio show and outed Crist...but no national media will say a thing!

everyone should write Tweety and ask him who he sent to Linn's office before the debates yesterday!@

sorry that is all i can say

but please write Tweety an email and ask him why he is covering for Crist..and who he sent to Linn's office the day of the debate..and why??

92. I just noticed this article has 118 votes for greatest. this! THIS??!!
I don't vote a lot, but I do rely on the greatest page to get a general sense of what's important at DU. It's quite rare to see a five star story. To get 100 votes is something I've seen few news stories receive. Most I agree with the urgency/importance of the >100 vote count.

But this? Gossip and anonymous hearsay about Republican gay sex. At least 118 people think it's really important, but I'm not one of them.

Can someone please explain to me why this is up there with the Downing Street Minutes?
