Does anyone know if the Soldiers Press Conference
is somewhere on the internet? I was on the road all day today, and did not get a chance to see or hear it. Or did *'s little photo op totally shut it down? Really would like to find it.

Steve

:hi:

1. Very good Q Steve - nothing on youtube, google video, myspace
and a basic google got me only announcements that a press conference is to be held wednesday.

Let's see what the intended timing was. I did see a DU post saying it was drummed to the background by Bush* speech.

2. I was thinking the same thing
I saw, very quickly, an interview with one of those involved in this on CNN, but I haven't seen anything online yet, and don't know if the press conference happened. On the interview they said a press conference was scheduled but didn't say it had already happened. They did say that 200 were involved -- I think the press release said there were only 65.

I tried to send an email to the contact address on their site (info@appealforredress.org), but it came back undeliverable. I asked if there was something the general public could do to show support for what they are doing. They need to show the widespread public support they have to counteract any possible penalty the military might try to impose on them inspite of the protection they may (or may not) have under the 'Whistleblower Act'.

If I find anything.. I'll let everyone know.

4. well it's a pity - they don't have anything that looks like it will be updated
not even a counter or something. But that may be because of the legalities involved.

5. Reuters link about the press conference (conference call apparently)

The Web site allows service members to sign the appeal that will be presented to members of Congress. Organizers said the number of signatories has climbed from 65 to 219 since the appeal was posted a few days ago and Wednesday when it was publicly launched. There are 140,000 U.S. troops in Iraq.

In a conference call with reporters, a sailor, a Marine and a soldier who had served in the Iraq operation said American troops there have increasingly had difficulty seeing the purpose of lengthy and repeated tours of duty since the fall of Saddam Hussein.

"The real grievances are: Why are we in Iraq if the weapons of mass destruction are not found, if the links to al Qaeda are not substantiated," said Marine Sgt. Liam Madden of Rockingham, Vermont, who was in Iraq from September 2004 to February 2005 and is based at Quantico, Virginia.

Navy Seaman Jonathan Hutto of Atlanta, stationed at Norfolk, Virginia and the first service member to join the campaign, said a similar appeal during the Vietnam War drew support from over 250,000 active duty service members in the early 1970s.
